Burning oil creates a hard carbon that needs to be removed from oil burn pot daily Wood is the worst fuel for heating, It has the lowest BTU output and wood makes a creosote build up in your chimney. Creosote is flammable and must cleaned out yearly... Natural gas (including LP gas) is the cleanest burning fuel but has the least BTU per pound output of all the above. So all fuels produce COs It's produced when carbon-containing materials like gasoline, wood, or natural gas are burned incompletely. CO is a common hazard in the home and can come from many sources. Bottom line is Buy the Best CO detector you can find. The pump types are superior to non pump sniffers, BUT... They only last about 2 years MAX!
