(Easy tutorial with settings and focus tips) Description: In this week's macro photography tutorial I use the medium format Fujifilm GFX 100SII to capture natural-light macro images in the woodlands. I struggled to find the images I wanted to take, but thankfully persevered and ended up with a selection of photos of insects and shells that I'm quite pleased with. I show how I use my camera settings to capture bright, sharp macro images and how I use manual focus stacking techniques to ensure proper focus on my subject. While not all of these shots might qualify as proper 'macro' images, I took most of them at the closest focusing point on Fujifilm's GFX macro lens. I take a variety of images from classic street photography to more gentle travel and documentary images in both black and white and colour. In this wordless, POV video, you can see how I find my subjects, compose my images and get the shot I wanted. I took images in both JPEG and RAW, using both the Leica High Contrast Monochrome and Chrome image profiles. The images you see here are a mixture of JPEGS an edited raw files. Along with the settings and compositions I use, I show my tips and tricks for macro photography, blending flash light with natural light to create dramatic images that capture the story of the ship. While I went inside looking mostly for macro photos, I took a wider range of images, including shots that show full rooms and of course some wide shots of the ship itself. All of these types of photos really help add to that story. I took my images on board the SS Explorer, a research vessel launched in 1955 and used primarily in Northern waters before being retired in the 1980s and eventually coming to rest in Leith docks. I take images of smoke creating beautiful patterns and explain how to use flash settings to eliminate the ambient light in the room and to create dramatic-looking abstract images. I love this photo project idea. It's so easy to do and requires very little equipment; just your camera, a wireless flash and something to create the smoke. For many of the shots I just used an incense stick, while for others I used a professional hand-held smoke machine (called the Smoke Genie), but a vape pen would also work well here.
