The ancient layers were preserved exceptionally well, thereby allowing a definition of a Mesolithic Period or Middle Stone Age Period. Otherwise, only scarce information has been known about this particular ancient time range and cultural context. Today, we can learn what life was like for the ancient people at Star Carr, through examining the extensive and diverse physical evidence at the site.
