So here's six minutes of me chatting to the camera whilst walking through some lucious green countryside, talking about the angry feedback I got to a recent Facebook/Instagram post I made, where I implied that I'd jumped off of the Cantilever Rock on Glyder Fach in Snowdonia, resulting in two broken ankles and a helicopter rescue. No, really, I insist. https://www.facebook.com/IAmBraveDave/ https://www.instagram.com/iambravedave/ </video> <video> Brave Dave's Guide To Bryant's Gully Description: Bryant's Gully is my favourite scramble by far, due to how big it is (over 500 meters of scrambling ascent) and how varied the sections are. I've already uploaded a few videos of it (including the first time I ever went up) but I thought I'd add this one too, because it shows it in more detail. Bryant's Gully is a grade 2+ and you definitely shouldn't go up it unless you're a confident scrambler. There are lots of steep, slippery rocks and plenty of loose undergrowth, as well as a constant stream of water. Escape routes are minimal and can be almost as awkward to climb as the gully itself. There is zero phone reception in Bryant's Gully and it hardly ever has other people in it, so if you were to slip and break something then you'd find yourself in a whole world of trouble. By the way, this video is from August but I have only just uploaded it because I'd already added a couple of Bryant's Gully videos back then and thought that a third one would just be too much. So now you know. </video> <video> Super Mega Strong Wind On Crib Goch Description: I don't usually upload videos of me leading clients but the conditions on this hike were just too amazing not to share. I've never been up on Crib Goch before when it has been so windy and yet sunny at the same time. Not only that but we had the clouds blasting right at us which looked really cool and at times quite surreal. Loads of fun! We set off expecting wind, rain and mist all day but instead got incredible views and unique conditions, plus we had the whole ridge to ourselves because no one else had thought that Crib Goch looked appealing that day. It's a Grade 3 scramble due to it being so steep and exposed, and the first ten meters in particular are pretty unnerving. Live vicariously through this video and join me as I climb Cneifion Arete for the first time, breathing heavily and occasionally swearing to myself as I go. Hoorah! </video> <video> Helping Out Up Bryant's Gully Description: I had a spare day between leading clients so I thought I'd head up my favourite scramble; Bryant's Gully, and then continue on to the Glyders, aiming for a grade 3 scramble that I wanted to do on Glyder Fach. However, my plans were to change a little bit and I ended up making some new friends instead. </video> <video> The Wet 'n' Wild Cairngorms (2021) Description: A group of us head up to Scotland for a long weekend of multi-night camping in the Cairngorms. The weather was... a mixed bag, but ultimately there was rain. A lot of rain. Still, we had a day and night of great weather and saw some superb views, so it was well worth it. You can't beat a clear Autumnal day in Scotland! I also wanted to say that the four of us have all been double-jabbed and we all took lateral flow Covid tests before meeting up. When we were in the bothy, packed in with 12 other people in a very closed and humid environment, we semi-joked about it being a super-spreader event. Hopefully no one else had, or caught, Covid because there weren't many other options for getting out of the wet and the cold... </video> <video> My Welsh 3000s Solo Attempt (2021) Description: The weather report seemed pretty good so I thought I'd give the Welsh 3000s a go before winter set in. Doing it solo is way harder than doing it with someone else, or with support along the way. This is because you won't have a car waiting for you at the end, so you need to carry the necessary kit and extra food for sleeping out on the Carneddau and then walking over ten miles back to your car in Llanberis Pass (descending Pen Y Ole Wen and crossing the Glyders again along the way). This adds a lot of extra weight to your backpack, which uses up more energy, makes movement much slower and increases the chances of slipping over and having an accident. Having mist and wet rocks for the entire way certainly doesn't help anything either. The next time I do this I will be mega fit so that I can do the whole thing and then get all the way back to my car in one go. That's the best part of 50 miles of rough mountain terrain. So yeah, meeeeega fit! It's also kind of funny how this attempt was exactly ten years to the day since my first ever 3000s experience. That was way back when I was very new to the mountains and it's genuinely shocking how unprepared and naive I was about what the 3000s actually entailed. Ideally I wouldn't use a copyrighted track but it's a banger, and it fits really well, so I did! </video> <video> My Tryfan Speedrun 2021 | Up North Ridge, Down West Gully Description: After leading a couple of guys in Snowdonia for two days I had a bit of energy left, so before driving home I decided to see how quickly I could get up Tryfan (my last speedrun up there was in 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wx6kCuOyBY). I also took the opportunity to descend via West Gully which I'd never actually done before. The next time I'm doing the Welsh 3000s I'll definitely come down that way again as it shaves off a ton of time compared to other routes! If you ever feel like you need an hour or so of gentle cardio exercise to perk you up a bit then I can recommend storming up and down Tryfan on a sunny afternoon. Maybe don't do it if you've got dodgy knees though. </video> <video> Scrambling The Spiky Rock Section of Bryant's Gully Description: I had a day off from leading people in Snowdonia and was supposed to be resting for a Welsh 3000s attempt the next day but it was so sunny that I thought it would be a waste to not go and climb something. So I went up Bryant's Gully again. This is my first time climbing up it. The first part is very straightforward, but then you get to a steep ramp which leads to the start of the Grade 3 section. This is where the scrambling gets real. A great way to get to the summit of Glyder Fach!
