Somehow amidst all that fun, 20 years have come and gone. For 2 decades I've been aboard a Trek bike. (I guess that explains all the fun.) At the Sea Otter Classic, we took the opportunity to celebrate this milestone by not only displaying some my old memory-filled frames, but Trek surprised me with a custom painted Fuel EX decked out with symbolic touches to commemorate 20 years of partnership together. But the celebrations didn't stop once we left the booth, Trek threw a big party that night and let my band, Space Mesa play for all our friends in attendance. Great BBQ from Crossroads BBQ, beers on tap, and very very loud music. That's my kind of party. In that 20 years it has risen, fallen, and has now been resuscitated into an insane riding zone yet again. This shuttle day was to celebrate the trails and thank all the dedicated builders who have created and maintained them. Freehub Magazine made a documentary short film about the trail network and threw a premiere at at the Grand Theater in nearby Salem Oregon. They used our songs in the film and asked if Space Mesa would play on stage after the premiere. Absolutely. We had a blast. Doug couldn't make it so luckily Ryan Rodriguez filled in on drums and killed it. Camping, riding, and a theater gig. What a weekend. Thanks to BRMBA (Black Rock Mountain Bike Association) for all the years of great riding. Time flies. Get Sideways Description: Nothing feels better than cracking into a good whip. Here are a couple tips on how to find that sweet spot and hopefully bring it back straight berore landing. I dug up a couple shots of recent whips that I’ve had that felt good and tried to reverse engineer what went right and repeat it on my neighborhood dirt jump. At the end of the vid, I cold-call some Grade-A whippers via FaceTime to get their 2 cents. We put trick names on the SIMON board and let it determine our run through the jumps. A fun twist for a game of B.I.K.E for sure... but this twist alone wasn't twisty enough. (Hint - walkie talkies) In the first test run of this concept, I square up against the young Bend OR Jedi, Arlie Connoly. Thanks to Arlie for being down to test-dummy this concept with me.
