Although we use the terms “individual” and “person” as though they were interchangeable synonyms, there actually is a difference between the two. An individual has only the quantitative value of being one in number but a persona originally meant a mask or something which could display a universal or absolute value beyond the individual. In modernity, however, we find ourselves in the strange position of having everyone become the same person through, for example, having woman cover through natural face with heavy layers of makeup or plastic surgery, having everyone embody the same mass produced masks with no absolute value but only the character of an artificially manufactured machine. Similarly, any sense of the local collapses as people spend most of their time watching far away things on their TVs or literally travelling all over the Earth as digital nomads or travel vloggers, only to find that the most sublime places are turned into a drug to release a little more dopamine before moving on to the next distraction.
