Guide Signs: Route finding (Trailblazing) guide signs: # Route finding signs have distinctive symbols on them and are placed on the route to guide the drivers so that they are on the right direction to reach their destination # These signs Guide towards Dubai roads like 2nd Zaabeel Street, Sheik Rashid Street etc. # These signs guide us towards UAE roads like Sheik Zayed road which connects all emirates in UAE. # These signs show the direction towards different places like metro stations, taxi stands, tram stations, Marine stations etc. # These are signs showing direction towards Dubai international airports # These are signs showing direction towards specific landmarks like Deira, Al Sharjah, Um Hurair Street, Al Ain etc. # These signs lead us towards Tourist destinations like Zabeel Park, Dubai frame etc., and other important places like government offices, Hospitals etc. # Colours of Guide signs have some indications # Blue sign boards indicate that, you are on emirates route which connects all seven emirates of UAE # Green sign boards indicate that, you are on Dubai routes # White sign boards guide you around inner roads and communities. It shows the street you are driving on within communities in Dubai. # Brown boards shows the tourist destinations and important places. Exit directions sign: # Exit direction sign guide vehicles to the specified lanes that needs to be taken before the exit. # For example, as per this sign board, if we take the right lane, it will take us to exit 55 which will go to outh Maitha road and Al ain as shown # In this sign the right lane will take to the exit which goes to sheik Rashid Street. # In this manner, different lane directions to different places are shown. Other Important Traffic guide Signs: # Let us observe some of other traffic guide signs which gives us relevant information while travelling. # This is the sign for parking spaces. # This is the sign for petrol pump. # This sign is for hospital. # Here we can see the sign for Metro stations. # The sign for public bus station is shown here. # This location is for the parking of bicycles as per the sign. # This sign says that there is river bank. # Some supplementary information signs can be seen like keep in lane, some distances, tunnel etc. # Many attention signs can be seen like Tunnel monitored by radar, Use dipped lights in tunnel, No vehicles above 2.5tons in tunnel, Penalty for red light violation and tram interruption, attention against camping without permits etc. # This sign shows that pick and drop is only allowed in this area. # This sign indicates that the lane is open. # This sign shows that the lane is closed and the traffic should not be towards this direction. # This is the sign of salik or Toll gate. A sticker is fixed on the windshield of vehicle, which is captured by sensor at tollgate and the specific amount is deducted from the user’s account when the vehicle passes through the toll gate. # This is the sign of Tunnel. # This sign is placed here to reduce the speed to avoid the risk of accident ahead. # This sign shows that diversion is ahead because of some works. Care should be taken. # This is the sign of floating bridge. Prohibitory Signs # They indicate road users about the actions they should not take. They are prohibited actions or objects. # This sign shows that pedestrian are not allowed here. In this case this is because of tram passageway. # Maximum speed limit is figure mentioned inside this signs. Speed above this is prohibited. # Here Turning left is prohibited # Here Turning right is prohibited # Here U turn is prohibited # Here Cyclists are prohibited # Here cyclist are not allowed ride on the cycle on road. # Here maximum height limit is the figure mentioned inside the sign. This may be because of the overhead obstruction. Surface preparation # Surface to be waterproofed should be clean, sound, dry and free of all contamination such as dirt, oil, grease etc. # All dust, loose particles, slurry etc. should be completely removed. # Undulations (High spots) are cleared by grinding. # Proper Cleaning is done. 2. Crack Treatment # If some cracks are observed, it has to be treated before application of waterproofing layer. # Different crack treatment methods are there according to the severity, location of crack etc. # For example, here we are making V groove along the crack using concrete cutting blade. # And after proper cleaning, it is filled with epoxy grout. 3. Bore Packing # Core cuts made for the provision of plumbing pipes are one of the weakest points where leakages can occur. # Hence, it has to be treated with utmost care. # Bore packing is the process of fixing plumbing pipes in their cut outs / core cuts # Cleaning and roughening of borehole is done and pipes are properly aligned # Formworks are made leak proof for grouting # Grout is mixed properly and is applied 4. Angle Fillet Application # Corners and 90 degree offsets are another major weak points through which leakage can occur. # For all corners and 90 degree offsets, angle fillet at 45 degree angle, are to be made in order to provide uniform transition of waterproofing layer. # The cement mortar, used to prepare the angle fillet, should be mixed with integral waterproofing admixture, so that the angle fillet can act as additional protection, against water entry. Concrete Waterproofing-Types and Steps: 1. Cementitious Waterproofing # Material consist of 2 parts. One part is higher quality cementitious powder and 2nd part liquid polymer mixed as per manufacturer’s recommendation. # Both of these parts are mixed in the proportion mentioned by the manufacturer. # After the preparatory works, 1st coat is applied # Apply the 2nd coat after the previous coat has dried. # 2nd Coat is applied in the crosswise direction of 1st coat for more effectiveness. 2. Polyurethane Liquid Membrane waterproofing # Polyurethane Liquid membrane waterproofing is more premium and efficient type of waterproofing system. # Hence cost will be on the higher side. # After the preparatory works, 1st coat is applied # When it becomes dry, 2nd coat is also applied in crosswise direction # Sand is sprinkled over the 2nd coat in order to enable proper bonding with protection plaster. # Above this, protection layer in the form of plastering, tiling etc. can be done. 3. Bituminous membrane waterproofing # There are 2 types of bituminous membrane # First is Hot applied or Torch applied bituminous membrane. # In this type, after surface preparation, bituminous primer is applied. # When it becomes dry, bituminous membrane is heated using gas torch and applied on concrete surface. # Second one is Cold Applied Bituminous membrane # It is self-adhesive membrane. # Here also after surface preparation, bituminous primer is applied. # When it becomes dry, the plastic foil on the adhesive side is removed and the membrane is sticked, onto the primed surface. # For both types, proper overlaps are provided according to specifications # If its horizontal application, screed concrete, plastering or tiling etc. are done, for protection of membrane and if it is vertical application, plastering, boards etc. are done, for protection of membrane 4.Bituminous coating # They are usually done for, below ground concrete structures for protection, from water # It is applied after the preparatory works # 2nd coat is applied in a direction, perpendicular to the 1st coat and is done when the 1st coat becomes dry 5. Formworks # Formworks are fixed on all sides using cranes. # Tie rods are used # Formworks near upcoming approach slab side, and formworks near upcoming parapet sides are fixed according to its shape. # Surveyor will check the coordinates and levels. # Verticality, alignment, connections etc. are checked. # Pipes are fixed above for correct level and for movement of levelling machine. # Concrete setups are arranged. 4. Concrete # Concreting is done in layer by layer. # Mechanical vibrators are applied in each layer. # Continuous placing of concrete is needed to avoid the cold joints between the layers. # levelling machine, shovels, punchas, Bull floats are used # Proper curing is done using hessian cloth and polythene sheets. Parapet # Parapet concrete is done here in two stages. # Bottom portion is done first. # In 2nd part, formwork is with a design. So special formwork is prepared and cleaned properly. # After remaining steel works, form work are fixed. And concreting is done. Approach slabs below underpass # Ground is prepared using Excavator. # Road base soil is placed for good strength. # After curing, primer for water proofing is done. # Waterproofing membrane and board is applied. # Steel works and formworks are done. # Concreting is done with proper compaction. Then finishing. Thereafter curing. Concrete above base slab # After removal of all top slab scaffolding, the base slab area is cleaned. # Formwork and concreting is done above the base slab with suitable slope and levels of road. # Wearing course is coming above this. Waterproofing outside the RCC walls # Outside wall is finished well using the grinders. # The waterproofing primer is applied # Waterproofing membrane is applied above that after the required time. # Then protection board is applied above that and a firm pressure shall be applied. # In this waterproofed portion we can fill the soil layer by layer up to required height. On each layer Density tests are conducted. # Soil filling works are done in parallel to MSE wall works since the soil is to be laid on portion between walls and MSE walls. MSE wall works # Setting out of the MSE walls. # Formworks and concreting of levelling pad is done. # There are different types and shapes of soil panels which are designed according the load, location etc. # They are fixed and levelled using spirit levels and using surveyor coordinates. # Supports are given. # Geotextile Cloth provided # Soil is filled layer by layer up to the attachments and then friction ties of suitable load is tied with soil panel and is fixed to the ground using steel. # When soil reaches top, panels are placed above. And the process continues up to top. # Top of soil panel, precast capping beam is fixed. Approach slab above # Above approach slabs are constructed same like below approach slabs. Protective coating # Its procedures include finishing of rough surfaces using grinders, water jetting, primer application, 1st coating, Filler application and Final coat application. Road Works # Road base is laid and asphalting is done. Interlocks are laid on sides. # Suitable lighting arrangements are provided. Guard rails are fixed. # After suitable markings and placing of traffic signs, the underpass and way is opened for the traffic. # Well planned and properly executed infrastructural works, will considerably reduce traffic congestions and improves standards. Guidance Road Markings: Lines in the center of the road: 1. These are white lines which shows one way traffic. 2. Dotted white lines indicates that we can overtake if it is safe 3. We are not permitted to overtake on solid lines 4. Yellow lines which indicates two way traffic. 5. We also have dotted and solid yellow lines. Traffic Lane arrows and Markings 1. This arrow indicates that the lane is towards right 2. Here the arrow shows that we can go to the right and to the straight direction if we follow this lane. 3. This arrow shows that we can go to the left and to the straight direction if we follow this lane. 4.These arrows indicate the direction on approach to intersections. We can follow this according to our destination. 5. The meaning of this arrows is that, the lane follows a U turn. 6. This U turn is towards left and this is towards right. 7. Here the arrow indicates that we need to move into the lane as indicated. 8. This is the area to separate the traffic movements. 9. This is the separation of the road. 10. And here it is the merging of the two roads Traffic control at intersection 1. At intersections, traffic signals are provided. Basically it has 3 lights. 2. Green signal means the vehicles can move if the way is clear. We need to check the pedestrian and vehicle movement before proceeding. 3. Amber light means that the stopping red signal will come immediately. It’s the time for the vehicle in the intersection to pass. The vehicle coming towards the intersection needs to slow down for stopping. 4. Red signal means the vehicle needs to stop before the line provided. Violating the red signal is one of the most dangerous thing in traffic movement. This will be time for the vehicles coming from other directions or pedestrian movement. 5. This is Pedestrian signal and this is zebra crossing. Regulatory Road markings 1. This continuous yellow line in the carriage way is No passing line. 2. This short white intermittent lines across carriage way is Give way line. 3. This continuous longitudinal white line across the carriage way is Stop line. 4. In Box junctions of intersections, yellow box with diagonal squares are provided. Its Keep clear indication 5. Pedestrian crossing on single carriage way 6. Pedestrian crossing on multiple carriage way. Tram Marking 1. Pedestrian crossing in Tram way 2. Signal needs to be checked, Signs showing the direction of side is to be checked and proceed if there is no obstruction. 3. In the way of tram pedestrian access is strictly prohibited. 4. This is tram way. 5. At junction, yellow boxes are shown with tram way clearly marked in it. No other stopping is allowed on this location. 6. This is Zig Zag Zone Line. This indicates that pedestrian crossing is coming up Warning Road marking 1. These are Rumble strips, also known as sleeper lines or alert lines which will alert the inattentive drivers of potential danger. 2. It will change the noise of vehicle tyre and so it warns the drivers for speed restrictions 3. These are speed Hump markings. It is provided to warn the users about the potential danger so they need to reduce the speed. Spain : the cradle of modern chess Spanish expeditions helped in Globalization Spanish, an international language 2. Brazil Capital: Brasilia. The pavilion is raised on piers over a reflecting pool and consists of huge steel structures with membrane covering its four sides. Visitors can enjoy walking through the cool water. The image projection on huge screen brings Brazil’s biodiversity to life showing country’s history and culture, popular festivities, cities and renewable energy sources. 3. Netherland Capital: Amsterdam The pavilion is built using local resources and locally rented construction materials like metal sheets, steel tubes, ducts etc. that will be reused after expo. Technical innovations of the pavilion can be seen projected onto white umbrellas. We can see rainfall at center Netherland pavilion is designed as a biotope, a circular climate system that unite water energy and food. We can see a large cone of farm which is covered with edible plants outside and mushroom inside. Water is harvested from the air humidity and used for irrigation of plants. 4. Qatar Capital: Doha Qatar is promoting the upcoming FIFA World cup 2022 at this pavilion. The pavilion invites the visitors to explore the past, present and the future of Qatar through visual arts, sound effects and music 5. Burkina Faso Burkino Faso is an African country with Ouagadougou as its capital It displays its natural and cultural wonders 6. Terra It is self-sustaining building in the middle of desert showing that sustainability is achievable anywhere. There is a giant solar canopy on the top of the pavilion with over thousands of solar panels and 18 energy trees in the gardens that rotate to follow the path of the sun. Under the ocean Deepest ocean , Sea of consumption, Dissolving theatre, Would you rather, the flooding house, the archive of three things Under the forest Wood wide network, the burning house, the archive of three things Terra is an immerse journey into the wonders of nature 7 Vision Pavilion The vision pavilion celebrates the vision of His Highness Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice president and prime minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai The pavilion is based on sheik Mohammed’s book ‘My story’. The first chamber in the pavilion plays a video of young sheik Mohammed. Second chamber called ‘Little cave’ which was the favourite place of young sheik in Zabeel palace The 3rd chamber aims to celebrate the deepest passions of sheik Mohammed – horses and poetry. In the final Chamber, visitors can enjoy a ‘Pins table’ designed to show how Dubai became a city of hope 7. Sameem The sameem is an open air pavilion which shows the story of land and culture of UAE. There are Emirati story tellers, artists, artisans at the site who help people to understand Emirati culture. We can see sample dhows and people making nets. Talli is a traditional textile handicrafts. The shores of UAE witnessed many great things. The port cities of UAE have always attracted people from many different cultures, which fostered some of the country’s most cherished values, including openness and tolerance. Through this pavilion we are able to understand in UAE how tradition is tied to the future. 8. The women pavilion The women’s pavilion showcases female contributions to society, showing that when women thrive, humanity thrives. It shows the positive impact women make on the world. The pavilion clearly tells about the challenges women still faces. The next section of the pavilion inspires us with the worldwide initiatives and solutions taken by women 9. The Good place by Expo live This pavilion showcases remarkable innovations that can make difference in countless lives across the globe Harvesting water from fog, Reliable tropical forecast for farmers, Mobile healthcare for mothers and babies, communities banking together, plastic wastes to building blocks etc. are some of them.
