Therapy dogs from across the country were in central Ohio to participate in a unique training school with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbus Division of Police. Together, we spent a day at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium where the dogs had the opportunity to become comfortable in uncomfortable situations where they got to experience new sights, smells, people, and sounds. Losing a loved one to senseless violence and struggling to find answers is an unimaginably difficult feat that no one should have to face. Yet, for the past three years, the family of Ronald Jones, Jr. has done just that. Our detectives are still just as eager to solve this case as they were the morning of March 21, 2021 when Mr. Jones' life was cut short due to gunfire by an unknown offender. This free educational program is designed to foster lasting relationships between participants and the Columbus Division of Police. For 13 weeks, every Wednesday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, learn the values, philosophies, and operations of the Division while sharing your ideas and assisting the CDP in reducing crime and achieving the best police service in the city of Columbus. Members of the academy will also gain insight into the “ABCs” of policing, the true function of patrol officers, the laws of arrest, and several other law enforcement fundamentals. The Spring sessions will begin on February 21, 2024 and conclude on May 15, 2024.
