It takes a high-level look at the complexity of the human brain and contrasts it with the capabilities of early computers. Also, two early computers are shown, the British ELLIOTT 803 (of 1961) and the Soviet URAL-2 computer of 1959. The UK-built ELLIOTT 803 COMPUTER was a highly successful transistorized computer. A special feature was its use of 35mm movie film for its magnetic tapes. The film was manufactured by Kodak and formatted for the computer by Elliott Brothers Ltd. About 250 machines were built, of which only 3 survive. Also seen is a computer controlled robot "Lady Bug" navigating a maze; a Chess master competing with a computer; and later in the film, an amputee is connected to computer sensors that allow him to move a robotic arm remotely. Second half of the film, we see the Soviet URAL-2 Machine, a large vacuum tube computer. It was built in 1959 for scientific use and deployed to various parts of the Soviet Union during the 1960’s. About 139 of the Soviet machines were made. They were part of a large family of URAL computers made during the cold war era. The creator of the film was trying to predict the future use of AI. CHAP </video> <video> IBM 1965 Announcement Electronic Inscriber Banking Doc Proofing model 1260 MICR computers finance Description: Vintage Computers, 1965, the IBM 1260 Electronic Inscriber proofing machine was announced on July 1, 1965, and delivered to customers the following year. The 1260 could be used by a trained operator to proof documents, primarily checks, which could be processed by any computer system that used MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) technology, including the IBM System/360, which had been released in 1964. Utilizing Solid Logic Technology (SLT) and a specially designed keyboard layout, it provided a major increase in speed and versatility for the banking and financial industry. The following is a rare look at the original IBM announcement film, highlighting its unique design and operational features. A look back at the Aeronautical Laboratory, Wright Field Dayton Ohio, today part of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, is the location of the oldest flying field in the world. Many of Wilbur and Orville Wright's early flight experiments took place there over 120 years ago. By 1947, it was the site for technical development of JET ENGINE technology, and major advancements in Aerial Photography and RADAR. This film explores some of the events of that early history. Jet engine experiments, RADAR and Ground Controlled Approach techniques, and P38 and B29 aerial photography of the 1940's are seen. 1947 was the year of the separation of the Air Force from the Army to become its own branch of the service.
