If there's an idea for a DIY bath & body project - I'll make it! See you in my studio! <video> DIY Hair Butter: Your Secret To Healthy And Gorgeous Hair! Description: Learn how to make hair butter which targets dry, frizzy hair and split ends. Plus, it also turns frizzy dry pieces of hair into soft, bouncy curls. This stuff is amazing. If you want healthier, shinier, or softer hair - you're in the right place! Hair butter can be applied in many different ways (detailed below). RECIPE If the recipe states "butter", use a butter of your choice. Items in parenthesis "()" indicate specific ingredients that I used. NOTE: Making substitutions or adjustments may impact the final product. WATER PHASE: 250 grams distilled water, 20 grams Panthenol powder (optional) OIL PHASE: 100 grams butter (shea), 150 grams oil (75 grams each of castor/jojoba oil), 25 grams Glyceryl Stearate & PEG-100 stearate, 25 grams Cetearyl alcohol {I try not to use more than 1 emulsifying wax, but this wax combination worked best to get the perfect cream consistency}. DIRECTIONS Heat the oil phase until everything is melted, then heat the water phase to roughly the same temperature. Combine the 2 phases with a stick blender. Once mixture is below 150 degrees Fahrenheit, add [30 grams] fragrance oil and [2 grams] preservative. Use stick blender once more. You may pour it in a squeeze bottle right away. Cure for 24 hours in which the butter will develop structure and a thicker consistency. Once cured, package it as is OR whip it first. APPLICATIONS - apply hair butter to dry, damaged, or frizzed areas only. Do NOT apply it to your roots or healthy areas of hair. Hair mask: Apply it to dry/frizzy hair, like the ends. Thoroughly work the butter in the hair. Wrap or pin your hair up and let it sit for a while (30 minutes - 1 hour). You could even lightly heat the hair butter for deeper penetration. Rinse hair. Conditioner: Apply to hair as you normally would a conditioner. Leave in conditioner: after washing your hair, while it's still wet, apply a little bit to damaged hair, focusing on the ends. Use floral tape attach 2 sticks to each other for a taller tree. You'll something to hold the sticks in place, like floral foam. Tape the foam together and emboss it with a circle. Insert a stick in the center, then evenly slant 4 sticks towards the center stick as you push them in. Take the center stick out & secure the 4 sticks with a rubber band. Secure a round wire in the center to keep sticks straight (bend a wire around a round object & secure it with floral tape). All sticks added from this point on should tuck in right below the previous set. Keep adding sticks sets until you're satisfied; make sure they're evenly spaced and slanted towards the center. Secure the sticks with a rubber band. There shouldn’t be any sticks sticking out. GLUING TREES A turn table is recommended. Use skinny rope or twine to secure sticks in place. Coat the twine in glue then tie it tightly around the sticks. Tighten the string with each pass, then tie it. You really only need to do the top half. Next, apply a thicker rope coated in glue to the entire tree to hold the tree together and make it really strong and sturdy. This is also where you create the tree's design/pattern. You can leave some spaces in between the rope layers or you can wrap the entire tree. Let the glue dry fully. Remove the foam and finish roping the tree all the way down. Let the glue dry fully. Next, spray paint the trees if you wish. DECORATING TREES Crushed glass & glitter are great. I mix fine grain crushed glass with coarse & fine glitter, but any sparkling material will work - let your imagination run wild! For a thin decorative layer, use spray glue then pour decorations on. Let it dry, then remove the excess; about 70% will fall off. For a thicker and more permanent decorative layer, apply liquid glue, pour the decoration on, and push it down into the glue. After it's dry, knock off the excess; about 10% will come off. FINISHING TOUCHES Last, add final touches like flowers, berries, sprigs, spruce, ribbon, etc. If your tree comes out crooked or ugly, finishing touches can camouflage the mistakes and save the tree. I didn't make 4-6 trees (I bought them). *PROJECT ITEMS* Wooden dowels create a nicer, higher-quality, heavier tree, but wire stems create a tree that is just as strong/sturdy! I used rope [linked below] to cover the tree. You can use the rope as it is but it's a bit bulky. I cut off long sections at a time, then I untwisted & pulled the rope apart into 3 separate strings and used that to cover the tree. I used half the gallon of glue on 4 trees. I also linked gold spray paint because it's the best I've found yet; I used it to paint ugly-colored crushed rocks to match the rest. Description: Make cake bath bombs or bath bomb cakes. Make any theme like birthday, wedding, graduation, bachelorette, etc. RECIPE: 2 cups (500 grams) baking soda, 1 cup (200 grams) citric acid, 1/2 cup (60 grams) corn starch, 16 milliliters fragrance oil, 8 milliliters polysorbate 80, 12 milliliters carrier oil (I used grapeseed), 16 milliliters water or liquid color *The recipe given is the maximum amount the cake mold can hold. You can definitely add less mix (you don’t have to make/use the entire recipe). NOTE: The more mix you add, the taller the cake will be BUT the harder it will be to mold.* DIRECTIONS Sieve dry ingredients together & mix thoroughly. Add wet ingredients to separate a container & mix thoroughly. Always add mica to wet ingredients to reduce airborne particles. Add wet ingredients slowly to dry while whisking. Now thoroughly mix & knead the batch with your hands. MOLDING If you want, evenly coat the inside of the mold & add eco friendly decoration. Fill the mold half way then pack it. Fill it the rest of the way then pack it well (place mold on ground & use your weight to pack it). Tap the mold thoroughly, then lift it up just a bit & continue tapping until the bomb releases. Dry bomb 24 hours. DECORATION There are many options to choose from. You can air brush it; add dry mica; splatter, drizzle, or paint it with wet mica; apply ecofriendly glitter; add bubble bath/wafter paper flowers; add sugar sprinkles, & more. Seriously, the options are endless! PACKAGING I recommend a box that is 7x7x3 (width x length x height). The size of the interior mold is 6x6x3 & I found that exact size on Amazon (linked below). A little bit bigger box would be better though, especially if you pipe on the sides. You have to add a hardener (unless you make a bar out of 100% butter, but that wouldn't feel very good). A great general recipe is equal parts butter, hardener, and oil (use any ingredients you want). Butter is the main ingredient; it's the moisturizer and gives the bar structure -more with a hard butter. I use kokum butter because it's a hard/brittle butter and I like how it feels. The hardener makes the bar hard, gives it structure , and raises the melting point so that it stays hard in higher temperatures and doesn’t melt while holding it. I'm using stearic acid as opposed to wax because it doesn’t leave a heavy, sticky, or tacky feeling that wax does. Instead, it adds a creamy and velvety feel. The oil lowers the melting point, allowing the bar to readily melt on skin and absorb quicker. I'm using coconut oil because it makes the bars glide on skin. It gives them a glossy, silky feel. Plus it smells amazing. RECIPE 50 grams kokum butter, 50 grams stearic acid, 50 grams Coconut oil, & 15 grams fragrance oil (optional). Heat until ingredients are melted. Add fragrance oil. Pour into molds. If adding sticks, wait until bars are somewhat hard but still warm, then gently insert the sticks in and pull them out. Stearic acid makes the bars shrink so top them off for a flat surface. Cure them 24 hours. BUTTER BAR SPRINKLES Melt equal amounts of butter and hardener together so the sprinkles are hard & dry. Mold sprinkles. Periodically dust with mica to reduce sticking. The sprinkles dry fast. As soon as they're dry and still a little warm, coat with mica to reduce sticking & to add sparkle. Sieve excess mica off. ICING Melt equal amounts of butter and oil together. Add mica (if you wish) and mix. Make sure the mixture remains hot during the process. Apply the icing in small sections at a time and add sprinkles. Tetrasodium EDTA maintains clarity, prevents rancidity, promotes effectiveness of other ingredients, like the preservative, and improves foam and lather. You can omit it. The liquid surfactant is a binder and boosts foam. The preservative is crucial as this tablet will eventually be sitting in water. Sieve dry ingredients together. Mix wet ingredients separately. Add wet ingredients slowly while whisking. Thoroughly mix, knead, and rub mixture with your hands to ensure ingredients are thoroughly incorporated. MOLDING: Its quicker to use a mold with multiple cavities, like an embed maker. Make sure tablets fit in the bottle. Start with the bottom plate on. It comes in O, AD, or DD grades (thickness) O = 0.22 mm, AD = 0.27-0.35 mm, DD = 0.6 mm. O or AD grade are great for delicate flowers with lots of petals like roses or ranunculus's. DD grade is good for robust peonies or magnolias. After painting, O and AD grade flowers remain soft, flowy, and move. However, DD grade flowers become thick, stiff, quite hard, and have no movement. Each flower requires 5-10 petal sets (petals connected in center). Make sets very similar but vary them slightly in size. You can cut petals out by hand but a cutting machine, like silhouette cameo, is highly recommended. Use a round shape (foam balls) to mold petals. Moisturize foam balls to prevent petals from sticking. For colorful edges, mix alcohol with mica. Gently apply mixture to edges. Tips: Apply color sparingly. Use colors close to petal color. Painting petals: 50 milliliters liquid bubble bath, 15 milliliters surfactant (cocamidopropyl betaine), 1/8 cup sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (SLSa), 15 milliliters fragrance oil, liquid colorant. You only need a liquid surfactant (like bubble bath) - everything else is optional! ***This is the most SLSa you can add. Description: Master The Art Of Creating Luxurious Bath Salts Like a Pro! Today I'm going to show you how to make themed bath salts with the easiest way to scent bath salts directly. I'm also going to show you how to color them, personalize them, and even how to make packaging for them! In the end, they’ll look professional - like you bought them from a boutique! Use any type of salt that you want like coarse, medium, or fine grain. SCENTING SALT Melt a hard butter like illipe butter, then add polysorbate 80 & fragrance. The butter coats the salt creating dry, free-flowing, scented bath salt. Add about 2.5 milliliters of liquid to 100 grams of salt. Mix everything well and Coat the salts evenly. Lay it flat & dry it 24 hours. Once cured, the salt should be dry & free-flowing. RECIPE: 4 grams melted butter, 4 milliliters fragrance oil, 1 milliliter polysorbate 80. Finer grained salts can handle a bit more liquid. 100 grams coarse grain salt + 2.5 milliliters of liquid (fragrance/butter mixture) 100 grams medium grain salt (Epsom) + 3 milliliters of liquid (fragrance/butter mixture) 100 grams fine grain salt (Dendritic) + 4 milliliters of liquid (fragrance/butter mixture) COLORING SALT 3 milliliters alcohol, .5 milliliters polysorbate, 1/2 teaspoon mica. Mix ingredients together, then add mica mixture to bath salt until you're satisfied with the color. Mix well & let the salt dry fully (about 20 minutes).
