Despite the wind and the rain, her birth team made their way to her home. Claire was swaying through surges, breathing rhythmically, as gentle worship music filled the house. Her husband Anthony filled the birth tub and spoke loving words of encouragement over her. Claire made her way over to the birth tub, moving into positions that made her midwife, Sam, smile. Sam has been Claire's midwife for all three of her home births, and she knew that Claire was so close to the finish line. With her husband and her son at the edge of the tub, sweetly touching baby's head as it emerged, she bravely brought her baby out into her father's waiting hands. Another precious daughter! Amongst the laughter and cheers, the power went out, but the birthday party continued. Claire's parents were in Naples, Florida, and their home was completely destroyed by devastating flooding the day before. They had been trapped in the second story of their home until the flood waters receded. Claire was thrilled to finally make contact with her parents after struggling to get cell phone signal, to share the good news of a new grandbaby; a blessing from God in a time of tribulation. After several weeks of being 4+ centimeters dilated, it was finally time for this fifth sister to make her way into the world. The room was dark and quiet, and she labored in bed. This was different than how some of her others births had gone, but she surrendered to this birth and this baby, and followed her body's lead. This was her fourth home birth, after her first daughter was born via induction and Cesarean, so listening to her body's instincts was something she valued above all else.
