She suffered severe burns and shrapnel in her abdomen. Rahaf and her father are now among the more than 14,000 patients awaiting Israeli approval for urgently needed treatment abroad. The airstrike killed Rahaf’s mother, sister and two of her brothers, among others. From Rahaf’s family, only she, her father, and one brother survived. Her recount of the event is heartbreaking. “I woke up from the intense heat...I found myself lying down. My father was unconscious beside me, and my little brother was next to me. I couldn’t handle the sight; it was too hard to bear,” she recounts.
