While there are many causes for gastritis the most common ones are helicobacter pylori infection, chronic intake of strong tea and coffee, use of excess masala items, use of excess green chilies or dry chilies during cooking, chronic consumption of alcohol, smoking, and frequent use of fried items will lead to chronic gastritis. Changes in lifestyle and dietary habits will lead to the healing of inflammation of the gastric mucosa and eventually recovery of the protective inner layer of the stomach to relieve symptoms of gastritis like stomach pain, bloating, burping, nausea and vomiting. Treatment for gastritis is very simple, avoid the causes for gastritis and help heal the damage by the intake of foods that help in the healing process. Helicobacter pylori or H pylori is a gram-negative bacteria that usually resides in the gastric mucosal lining. It decreases urease enzyme to break urea into ammonia and carbon dioxide to neutralize the gastric ph to survive in harsh acid environments. This leads to mucosal dysregulation as well as changes in gastrin synthesis, which leads to increased HCl synthesis and increased acid load. This alteration in the ph levels leads to gastric ulcers and gastritis. The changes in the levels of nitric oxide also lead to alteration in lower esophageal sphincter strength, leading to reflux esophagitis and Gastroesophageal reflux disorder. H pylori infection may also lead to gastric cancer in some people. H pylori infection can be diagnosed by CO2 urea breath test. General treatment for H pylori infection is triple therapy, lifestyle changes, dietary changes, and use of alternative therapy to treat the condition. H. pylori gastritis is caused by the Helicobacter pylori bacterium, which can lead to inflammation and irritation of the stomach lining, resulting in symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and indigestion. The causes and risk factors associated with H. pylori infection. Common symptoms and signs of H. pylori gastritis. Diagnostic methods used to detect H. pylori infection, such as breath tests, blood tests, and endoscopy. Potential complications of untreated H. pylori gastritis, such as peptic ulcers and stomach cancer. Treatment options for H. pylori infection, including antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors, and bismuth subsalicylate. Statins will competitively inhibit HMG CoA reductase enzyme which is a rate limiting enzyme in the synthesis of cholesterol in our cells. As you may know higher cholesterol levels in the form of LDL is associated with increased incidence of hardening of blood vessels called atherosclerosis which in turn leads to cardiovascular diseases like heart attack and stroke. Though dietary modification and lifestyle changes may lower blood cholesterol levels but at times cholesterol lowering medication becomes necessity to decrease blood cholesterol level. The most commonly prescribed drug to lower blood cholesterol level is statin. In a recent article published by JAMA internal medicine, a large cohort study indicates an association of statin therapy initiation with diabetes progression.
