Headline 1 As CBDCs Launch, How Long Until the Social Credit Grid Controls You? (Zero Hedge) BY ITM TRADING Central Bank Digital Currencies are not just digital cash—they’re the foundation for absolute control," warns Taylor Kenney in her latest video. As countries like China weaponize social credit systems, the U.S. quietly inches closer to implementing its own version under the guise of financial inclusion. “A CBDC tracks every transaction, but it doesn’t stop there—it can reward or punish behavior in real-time.” With 134 countries actively pursuing CBDCs, she warns it’s only a matter of time before the U.S. follows suit. Amazingly, this is precisely what we have expected to happen from what the Scripture predicted long ago… We documented this in an appendix in our book “Look Up! A Timeline of 50 Last Days Events.” “The Bible And Tomorrow’s News: 12 Biblical Predictions About The Last Days That Are Now Being Literally Fulfilled. “ We also did a five-part video series that can be found on our YouTube channel, our website, educatingourworld and on our app… EOW with Don Stewart The amazing thing about this prediction is that assumes that this system could somehow be monitored to the place that if anyone, anywhere, attempts to buy or sell without the mark they will be put to death. Obviously, there is no way to monitor cash transactions worldwide so it would seem that such a decree would be meaningless. However, with the advent of digital currency, we can finally see how this will become a reality. So, this story has huge implications, a literal fulfillment of something that nobody thought could be literally possible. Headline 2 Africa as a Permanent Priority for Russia (New Eastern Outlook) (recorded December 28) In one sense, this headline could compete for the most important story of the year 2024 with respect to last days Bible prophecy. The website is Russian, and it’s written by a Russian entrepreneur about Russia’s interests in the future… The author emphasized that after the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, the countries of Libya and Sudan will be of the utmost importance for Russia. We listed seven important takeaways from this article. To sum up, this Russian goal, of control of Libya and Sudan, would complete the listed nations in Ezekiel 38 that are specified to be part of this last day’s coalition. In other words, we can now see how this particular grouping of nations will all eventually align with Russia to fulfill these long-awaited predictions of Scripture. This is truly amazing, especially if we couple it with what has already been literally fulfilled with respect to what the Scripture has predicted concerning the Ezekiel 38,39 Invasion. There is something else that we need to add to this... What Israel Will Look Like In The Last Days--Before The Ezekiel 38,39 Invasion From reading Ezekiel 36-39, we find thirteen predictions (assumptions), made about 2,600 years ago, that must be fulfilled before the invasion can occur ... The amazing thing is that each and every one of them has now been literally fulfilled! Therefore, against all odds these thirteen assumptions of what Israel would look like at the time of the end have now come to pass. Headline Netanyahu: Hamas has reneged on parts of ceasefire agreement "The Israeli Cabinet will not convene until the mediators notify Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement," said the Israeli Prime Minister's Office. Hamas has reneged on parts of the ceasefire agreement announced on Wednesday in an effort to extort last-minute concessions, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said on Thursday. “The Israeli Cabinet will not convene until the mediators notify Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement,” according to the PMO. Hamas Political Bureau member Ezzat al-Rishq was quoted by Channel 12 News, responding to the statement from the PMO: “Hamas is committed to the ceasefire agreement announced by the mediators.” Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s Religious Zionism Party signaled on Thursday it would likely exit Netanyahu’s coalition over the ceasefire agreement with Hamas. However, Channel 12 News reported on Thursday that according to a “senior government source,” Israel will not withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor in the first stage, and the second stage will not proceed unless Hamas agrees to relinquish control of Gaza. Netanyahu spoke on Wednesday night with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and thanked him for his help forging the ceasefire agreement. “The prime minister made it clear that he is committed to returning all of the hostages however he can and commended the U.S. president-elect for his remarks that the U.S. would work with Israel to ensure that Gaza will never be a haven for terrorism,” according to a statement from Jerusalem. The man’s illegal status was reported By Bill Melugin at Fox News late on January 12. Per ICE sources, the man seen in a viral video being subdued by residents & arrested by police w/ a blowtorch near the #KennethFire in West Hills is an illegal alien from Mexico named Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva. He is in custody on a probation violation & has NOT been charged w/ arson. Melugin continued: Now get this… The arrest comes as California legislators debate legislation that would provide another $25 million to help the state’s large population of illegal evade deportation during President Donald Trump’s second term. You can't make this stuff up! On a personal note, we had an arson episode in our city a few nights ago. Fortunately, the fire was spotted by a quick-thinking neighbor, and the fire was put out. It did not make any of the newscasts here in Southern California, but it was reported on our local city news, pictures and all. The identity of the perp is unknown so we should not assume we know who did it. This, of course, is an ongoing situation. Headline 2 LAFD Deputy Chief Slammed After Blaming Fire Victims for Being in ‘Wrong Place’ Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Deputy Chief Kristine Larson was criticized over remarks made in a video, blaming victims for being in the “wrong place” during a fire. Larson, who heads the Equity and Human Resources Bureau for the LAFD spoke about concerns from people regarding whether female firefighters are strong enough to carry a man out of a burning building, stating that if she has to carry him out of the fire, “he got himself in the wrong place.” Larson also defended the “department’s DEI hiring practices” in the video, according to the New York Post. We have mentioned a number of times that the United States of America is not in last days Bible prophecy. One of the possible reasons as to why this is so, is, like ancient Rome, namely, self-destruction, falling not from some outside force but rather from within. These first two stories are indicative of the fall of the U.S. from within. It is heartbreaking. Now for the most important story with respect to last days Bible Prophecy. Headline 3 Russia Eyes Libya to Replace Syria as Africa Launchpad (TheDefensePost) Recall we had a similar story about a week ago from a Russian website. Well, we know from Scripture that Russia will eventually control Libya to the extent that when Israel is invaded there will be armies from “Put” according to Ezekiel 38, which will be part of the invading force. The geographical location of “Put” is modern day Libya. As we previously mentioned, this is an important missing piece of the puzzle with respect to the invading forces against Israel. Since 2011, Libya has been divided between East and West and cannot raise up an army that would be part of the invading force. Part 1 contained lessons 1-5. This message is from our book My Favorite 25 Messages That I Preached, Message 1. Lesson 6: We Are To Be Watchful And Ready For His Coming Once we begin to understand the times in which we are living, we are to be watchful for the things that are to come. Being watchful means to be ready—to be alert. Lesson 7: We Are To Wait Patiently For His Coming This logically brings us to our next point. While we are to be watchful, and always alert, we are also to be patient. Undoubtedly, this is particularly problematic in light of the conditions of the world in which we live. The lesson to learn is to be patient. God’s program is right on schedule. Lesson 8: We Should Resist Doubting And Disillusionment As We Wait For His Return One particular lesson that we must learn is not to doubt that the Lord is truly returning. Unhappily, too many people in our day have been caught up in doubt and disillusionment about the return of the Lord. Lesson 9: We Are To Encourage One Another As The Time Draws Near Believers should be encouraging one another as the time of the Lord’s coming approaches. Lesson 10: We Are Not To Be Conformed To This World System In These Last Days If we are to stand out as a witness to this world, especially in these difficult times, then we should not be conformed to this ungodly world system in which we live. Lesson 11: We Are To Work For The Lord As We Wait For His Coming The time of waiting is a time of working. In other words, we should not sit idly by as the time of the Lord approaches. Every believer needs to be busy in the work of the Lord. We Are To Be Faithful To Our Calling Consequently, as we are living in the light of the coming of the Lord, each of us has a calling, a responsibility, that we are to live up to. The lesson is clear: the time of waiting is a time of working! Lesson 12: We Are To Live With Eternal Values In View Since we are living in the light of eternity, we must live with eternal values in view. Paul wrote about this to the Philippians: Lesson 13: We Are To Be Constantly Looking For His Appearing! Interestingly, in the last section of the last letter that the Apostle Paul wrote, before his impending death, he emphasized to Timothy about the necessity for believers to be looking for the return of the Lord (2 Timothy 4:6-8). When someone writes a letter, knowing that they are soon to die, it would be fair to call it a “dying declaration.” His point: the coming of the Lord should be something that is constantly on our mind. In fact, Paul says that we are to “love” His appearing—to “set our affection” on His coming back to the earth. Therefore, each of us needs to ask ourselves these questions: Have I set my affection on the coming of Christ? Is this something that is forefront in my mind? According to Scripture, it should be. Lesson 14: We Are To Remember That Our Message To The World Is The First Coming Of Christ Finally, and most important of all, the message that Christians are to take to the world is not the Second Coming of Jesus Christ to the earth but rather His First Coming to our world! We cannot emphasize this enough. In fact, the Apostle Paul made this clear when he wrote to the Corinthians how the gospel of Christ is of “first importance.” Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel that I preached to you, that you received and on which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message I preached to you - unless you believed in vain. For I passed on to you as of first importance what I also received - that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 NET) Let us not miss the fact that he said this message is of “first importance.” The testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:10 NET). In conclusion, these are some of the lessons that we should learn as we study the subject of Bible prophecy; and, in particular, the things concerning the last days. May we always keep them in the forefront of our minds as we seek to serve and follow Him in this very exciting time in which we are living. Therefore, after 15 months in captivity, we will start to see the release of some of the hostages that Hamas has been holding. This should happen tomorrow, Sunday. This is Phase 1 of the agreement. It will last 6 weeks with 33 Israelis released for about 955 Palestinians, including women and younger people, who are in Israeli jails for crimes they have committed. The big question will be what happens after the first phase is over. Will they ever get to Phase 2 which will constitute Israel’s complete withdrawal from Gaza? The good news is that the new U.S. administration has committed themselves to helping Israel. Note the following headlines... TRUMP EFFECT: Trump & team vow full support for Israel to crush Hamas, never let group rule Gaza again (All Israel News) Top Trump official says, US will back renewed Israeli offensive in Gaza if needed (Times Of Israel). This is further confirmed by a statement coming from the Likud Party… Finally, we have a statement by Netanyahu himself… However, this agreement is a gamble. If Hamas, somehow, keeps to the bargain then Israel will have to leave Gaza as the agreement states. This would be beyond devastating for the nation as well as the leadership. Among other things, it would mean that Hamas got away with mass murder on October 7th, 2023, and that every soldier who died in Gaza died in vain. We hope it does not come to this. As far as Bible prophecy is concerned, eventually the situation in Gaza must be neutralized since the future invasion of Russia, along with its allies, takes place at a time of peace. There can be no peace as long as Hamas is ruling Gaza, so something must happen. Exactly what, and when, is not known. In a nutshell, Libya is one of the missing links in the end times scenario. Known by their ancient name, Put, they must be able to join the coalition led by Russia that will eventually invade Israel. As of now, it is not possible because the country is divided. However, this story, emphasizes Russia’s desire to get a foothold in Libya with eventual control. Therefore, the fact that we see movement such as this, after these 14 years of division in Libya, is indicative as to where all this is going. Like the previous headline, the various books we have written on the Ezekiel 38,39 invasion will explain this in context. Headline 3 Russia and Iran sign strategic cooperation treaty This story is a further indication of the alignment of Russia and Iran, something that Scripture predicts will happen in the last days… Putin and Pezeshkian sign 20-year strategic partnership treaty emphasizing closer defense and economic cooperation, specifics remain undisclosed This is exactly what we expect to see from the predictions of Scripture… Again, as with the previous two stories, all of this is miraculously coming together as the Bible says. Headline 4 Saudi Arabia returns to Lebanon, pushing Iranians Out This normalization would fit what the Scripture predicts about the coming Ezekiel 38, 39 invasion, namely, the Saudis, ancient Sheba and Dedan, not only do not join the Russian invasion, but they actually protest what will take place (Ezekiel 38:13). In addition, Iran's military influence is further limited in the Middle East. Summing up, let us not miss how remarkable each of these stories are! Long ago, the Bible predicted a last day’s scenario that no human being could possibly know. In fact, in all the euphoria we now have these headlines this morning…. Hamas claims Israel is adding new conditions, negotiations persist (Jerusalem Post) Hamas is making a false claim that Israel has added new conditions to the negotiations to avoid implementing the deal," a diplomatic source later noted Hamas accused of stalling hostage deal, Palestinians shift blame to Israel (YNET) Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar approves proposed hostage deal in principle, Wall Street Journal reports; Palestinian source accuses Israel of withholding key details, including withdrawal maps. So, we continue to be in this ongoing confusing situation where Hamas keeps moving the goal posts. What we don’t understand is why is anyone surprised at this? Does anyone truly think that this terrorist group will actually make a deal with Israel? Then we have this headline… Why is Trump pushing Israel toward a bad deal? (Israel HaYom) This scenario is comparable to the United States allowing Guantanamo detainees to disperse along its borders with Canada and Mexico a year after 9/11, or permitting them to join Taliban forces against US troops in Afghanistan – a notion that defies strategic logic. … Paradoxically, it is now Trump who is pressuring Netanyahu to accept a framework designed in May 2024 under the Biden administration … The absence of strategic acumen in this deal is glaring, making it perplexing why the author of "The Art of the Deal" is pushing Israel towards what essentially amounts to a pact with its sworn enemy. So what’s going to happen? We will have to wait and see. On the other hand, Trump’s nominee for Defense Secretary had this to say yesterday at his confirmation hearing… Headline 2 Defense Secretary Nominee Hegseth: ‘I support Israel destroying, killing every last member of Hamas He was asked… “Do you consider yourself a Christian Zionist?” Senator Tom Cotton asked… “I’m a Christian, and I robustly support the State of Israel and its existential defense, and the way America comes alongside them as their great ally,” Hegseth said. “I support Israel destroying and killing every last member of Hamas.” This is a great answer… hopefully, these stories about Trump pressuring Israel for a bad deal will turn out to be false. However, Hegseth also said this. If confirmed, Hegseth said that he intends to redirect the Pentagon “behemoth” away from protracted conflicts in the Middle East to focus on the U.S. confrontation with China. “We’re gonna start by ensuring the institution understands, as far as threats abroad, the Chinese Communist Party is front and center, also obviously defending our homeland as well,” he said. This is consistent with what we have been reporting about Trump’s foreign policy goals… Get a deal done with Israel and those who are threatening them Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran… With Iran it may take military intervention by Israel. As we have continually stressed, Trump’s interest internationally will not be on Israel but on our border with Mexico, with Ukraine and Russia, and above all, China… Headline 3 Defense Minister Katz warns - 'If Hezbollah does not withdraw, there will be no agreement - and we will act forcefully.’ Israel previously warned of Hezbollah violations and slow deployment of Lebanese forces. Israeli leadership has already warned several times that it may extend its presence in southern Lebanon if conditions do not match the terms of the agreement. In late December, the IDF noted the slow deployment of the Lebanese military forces to the areas previously held by Hezbollah, which it noted could cause it to extend its presence and operations there. We are forty miles inland from the Palisades fire which, at the last official word yesterday evening was close to 3,000 acres. There are two other fires burning closer to us in more rural areas but there are houses that have already been destroyed. The entire LA county is under a red flag warning with an extreme fire watch. Strong winds have been blowing, the strongest since 2011 and it makes for an uneasy situation. We live in a Cul de sac the next to the last house on the street where there is a canyon and lots of old brush. There’s a fire road right below the houses next to us. We should be fine since there has never been a fire in the canyon since the houses were built in the 1980’s. However, there’s always a possibility of something starting so we have to be alert. There’s one road, in and out of our area, with approximately 150 houses … so we do appreciate your prayers… If you’ve ever been in a fire, then you know how scary it can be. I was in a motel fire in the 1970’s in Milwaukee on the second floor of a two story building. It was quite the experience… three responses you can have, freeze, react, or respond… I reacted and ran down the stairs… not thinking that the fire may be started there and door shuts and locks behind you… We all got out safely but we were told if the fire had taken place an hour later they would have been counting bodies. The thing that struck me is how everybody that got out was trying to help those who were stuck on the second floor… My good friend Dave Sweet has been the pastor of Calvary Chapel of Paradise in northern California for about 50 years. Recall, the "Camp Fire" in 2018 which caused 85 fatalities, displaced more than 50,000 people, and destroyed more than 18,000 structures, causing an estimated $16.5 billion in damage. It was the 5th worst fire as far as fatalities in U.S. history. It burned for 17 days… I had gone to Paradise and spoken to the church there about every other year since the early 70’s. Heartbreaking .... Dave lived next door to a man who was an ex-fire chief who had just cleared the brush away from his house and Dave decided to do the same. The fire destroyed every house on his street except his and the fire chief’s. He saw it begin, living on the edge of a precipice took five hours to get away from the flames, people were abandoning cars and running for their lives. Images, of course, he will never forget. All that to say, is that it’s really harrowing if you’re caught up in something like this… This is a developing story, winds will still be blowing today so please pray for us here… There are stories in the news, but nothing earth shattering at the moment, although Tom Hughes sent me a story last night how Israel is on the highest alert because of a story from the IRIB TV 3 in Iran. It said, In the coming hours the world will witness unusual scenes and developments. (Part 1) How should we conduct our lives in light of the times in which we are living? What does the Lord expect from us? In other words, what practical steps should believers take as the coming of the Lord draws near? What lessons should we learn from our study of Bible prophecy? There are, indeed, many lessons that we can learn about how to live successfully in light of these last days. They include the following: Lesson 1 We Can Understand The Times In Which We Are Living! This first lesson is primary! The Bible itself emphasizes that we can know, and we can understand the times in which we are living. Therefore, we should take the time to understand precisely where we are in God’s prophetic timetable. Consequently, the lesson for us is this: We can understand the times in which we are living if we take seriously what the Bible has to say about this subject. The great promise that we have today, is that at the time of the end, those who humbly study the Word of God and believe the Lord means what He says, and says what He means, would be able to understand how these predictions fit into the last days scenario. Lesson 2: We Should Be Thankful and Humbled By The Privilege Of Living In These Times This brings us to another lesson—we should truly appreciate the fact that we are living at the time of the end of this present age! In fact, we can learn an important lesson from Jesus about this. The Testimony Of Jesus Jesus’ words to His disciples should inspire us. He testified that what they saw and heard fulfilled the desire of all of those who came before them: But your eyes are blessed because they see, and your ears because they hear. For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it (Matthew 13:16-17 NET). Therefore, the generation that heard the words of Jesus, and saw the miraculous things which He did, was a special generation. Indeed, there has been none other like it, either before or since. In the same way, since the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven, some two thousand years ago, each generation of Christians has been longing to see the signs of the “last days,” but they have not seen them. The fact that these signs are beginning to happen today, right in front of our very eyes, should cause us to be thankful, as well as humbled! Lesson 3: We Should Interpret The Prophetic Passages At Face Value At His First Coming, the Lord expected the people to understand the words of the Hebrew Scriptures as well as His words, at face value, or literally. Jesus fulfilled the predicted signs of the coming Messiah, precisely as they were written in the Old Testament. Indeed, everything that was predicted about His coming was fulfilled and it was fulfilled literally. Consequently, there was no excuse for ignoring these signs. Indeed, when a person examines the Bible and interprets what is written, including predictions about the future, in their normal, literal sense, then they will appreciate the fact that the God of the Bible, and He alone, has accurately predicted hundreds of events that have already taken place. Therefore, the lesson here is that the Lord means what He says and says what He means! Consequently, if the past predictions have been fulfilled exactly as they were written, then we have every reason to believe that those predictions that are yet to be fulfilled, will, likewise, be done so in a literal manner. Lesson 4: We Are Not To Go Beyond That Which Is Written The lesson to be learned here is that the Bible itself is a sufficient source for human beings for everything that we need to know about events that will take place in the future. Only the Bible reveals what will occur—we do not need to “go beyond that which is written.” (1 Corinthians 4:6) Lesson 5: We Should Be Teachable About Prophetic Issues As we wait for the coming of the Lord, and we study the Scriptures about the events surrounding His return, all of us need to be teachable. May the Lord help each and every one of us learn the lesson to be teachable when it comes to understanding the truths of the biblical predictions of the “last days,” as well as how we should live in light of these truths. A New Headline This Morning seemingly makes this all the more necessary Tehran unveils underground weapons facility aimed at making new missiles (The Jerusalem Post) General Amir Ali Hajizadeh toured the facility, describing it as a “dormant volcano.” A message to the West Saudi news outlet al-Arabiya noted that Tehran released the video of the site only shortly before Donald Trump is set to return to the White House. The video was also released after Basij fighters paraded through Tehran with heavy weaponry and military vehicles - a demonstration which also saw hundreds reportedly carrying coffins decorated with Israeli flags. During the demonstration, IRGC General Mohammadreza Naghdi told the crowds that the US was “behind all the misfortune in the Muslim world” and “if we are able to destroy the Zionist regime and withdraw the American bases in the region, one of our big problems will be resolved,” according to al Arabiya. In response to this, two stories that we highlighted earlier this week seem to point out the inevitable… Headline … Trump will support strike on Iran’s nuke program, sources say (Jewish News Service) Headline … Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear program in 2025 could transform Middle East - analysis (Jerusalem Post) There seems to be an inevitability about it as these stories indicate. If so, it would truly change the future course of the Middle East for Iran without a nuclear program, would not be any major threat to Israel, seeing that its surrogate Hezbollah and Hamas have become somewhat neutralized. This is something that we have been predicting to happen for years. While Iran has been the most high-profile military threat to Israel, it will not remain that way according to last days Bible prophecy... it will be Russia who eventually leads an invasion of Israel with Iran and Turkey as surrogates. In other words, while Iran’s nuclear capability may be rendered inoperative that does not mean that they will cease to be a lesser threat to Israel. Headline 4 Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear program in 2025 could transform Middle East - analysis (Jerusalem Post) Suddenly, there is a public possibility that Israel could eliminate Iranian nuclear facilities either by airstrike or by special forces operation. Headline 5 Emerging Turkey-Israel Competition over the Control of Syria (Russian website New Eastern Outlook) The eventual exit of the al-Assad regime from Syria more than a decade after the initiation of the Washington-backed “regime change” offensive has opened a new front of geopolitical rivalry between Israel and Turkey. There is also a story today from an Israeli website about a possible war between Israel and Turkey over Syria. We definitely have to keep our eyes on this also. Headline 6 Toyota’s futuristic Woven City in Japan is ready for its first residents Here we go again… humans try to establish “utopia” here upon the earth. This will likely be the first of many “experiments” that humans will make to “better our world.” The trouble is that whatever “utopia” is built will be inhabited by fallen human beings with a sinful nature. Starting with the “tower of Babel” we have seen humanity attempt to defy God by creating their own paradise on earth… While it sounds desirable to sinful humanity, it cannot, and will not ever work. For believers, Revelation 21:1-5 tells us where our world will end up for those who have trusted the God of the Bible. What a wonderful future we have! The Security cabinet has just voted today, Friday, to recommend the government to approve hostage deal. The first hostages will then be released on Sunday night. Headline 1 33 hostages released in 6 weeks, women and children first: These are the details of the deal (YNET) At least 3 hostages will be released each week during the 42-day cease-fire as the IDF gradually withdraws from central Gaza and displaced persons return to the north; For each kidnapped civilian, 30 terrorists will be released, and for each female soldier 50. … Negotiations on the second phase of the agreement, guaranteed by the U.S., Qatar and Egypt, will begin by the 16th day of the first phase. The second phase is expected to include the release of all remaining hostages, including soldiers, and to ensure a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a full IDF withdrawal from it. The third phase is expected to include the return of all remaining hostages and the beginning of the reconstruction of Gaza under the supervision of Egypt, Qatar and the UN. However, now it is a done deal… Headline 3 Likud defends deal: 'Allows Israel to return to fighting under American guarantee' (YNET) This is confirmed by another headline… Top Trump official says US will back renewed Israeli offensive in Gaza if needed (Times of Israel) Headline 4 Oh, Bibi. Oh, Trump: From 'Total Victory' to a surrender (Israel HaYom By Ariel Kahana, 1-16-25) What were we promised by Netanya? "We will topple Hamas" (2009). .. "Hamas has suffered a serious blow and will continue to suffer" (Operation Protective Edge, 2014). "Hamas is deterred. It will not fire into our territory" (2023). "Hamas will no longer rule the Gaza Strip" (2024). "We will not stop until achieving total victory" (2024). What did we get? A one-day massacre in sovereign Israel, featuring atrocities of unprecedented horror. The longest and most grueling war in the country's history, claiming approximately 1,800 Israeli lives. 15 harrowing months with none of Israel's stated objectives fully achieved. Approximately 250 hostages, some of whom have returned, while others remain unaccounted for, with their fates potentially never to be known. This basically sums up the case against the hostage/ceasefire deal. In other words, it is a very bad thing. However, there is another view… Headline 5 With hostage deal, Netanyahu is going all in on Trump (Times of Israel January 16 Haviv Rettig Gur) The prime minister is risking a schism with his closest political allies to advance a deal with Hamas. He has good reason to think it’s worth the gamble The deal now on the table is not, despite Biden’s claims, is not the same deal offered in May. There are two deals on the table this week: Netanyahu’s deal with Hamas and Netanyahu’s deal with the incoming Trump administration. We know a great deal about the first and very little about the second. Could Netanyahu [have] a solemn commitment from Trump when he promises … a resumption of the war after phase 1? Israel can do what it takes to win, but Trump, it appears, wants it to show it is willing to try a ceasefire, publicly and clearly. When Hamas inevitably tries to rearm or launch a rocket, Israel will have its excuse to return to fighting, perhaps better prepared and with better intelligence penetration of the Hamas ranks than on October 8, 2023. ... And in the meantime, Israel will spend the ceasefire preparing the offensive Netanyahu seems to believe will be permitted him at the end of phase 1. If this is indeed Netanyahu’s calculation, then the deal he will soon sign is a reasonable gambit and a serious strategy. This explanation seems to make more sense. Netanyahu won’t give up his goal of the eradication of Hamas and its military structure. In other words, he is not giving in to Biden’s ceasefire and leave deal but rather to a deal which there will be a ceasefire, some hostages will be released and when Hamas violates the deal, he will have the backing of the U.S. and Trump to use all force necessary to defeat Hamas in the manner that he has always wanted to do.
