Before the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, the Aztecs performed dances to celebrate their gods. When the Spanish arrived, they requested to dance for the Catholic Saints instead. Nowadays, Aztecs groups of Concheros continue to dance for the Catholic Saints in the Atrium of Churches. What you see, is the way to represent what Aztecs were before. “The new fire” dance was performed every 52 years, when Aztecs thought the world was coming to an end. If the world did not end, they would start over full of joy and filled with a new fire. This type of dance is called: Amakondera. </video> <video> Chinese Guzheng | Embassy Festival 2020 Description: Guzheng (Chinese plucked zither) is a traditional Chinese instrument with a history of more than 2,500 years. It can be dated back to the Warring States period (475–221 BC). This song is an adaptation from a traditional Chinese poem written by Li Bai, who was a Chinese poet acclaimed from his own day - the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD) - to the present as a genius and a romantic figure who took traditional poetic forms to new heights. Around the same historical period, Guzheng had also become the most commonly played instrument in China. The modern Guzheng commonly has 21 strings, and is tuned in a major pentatonic scale. It has a large, resonant soundboard made from wood. Guzheng players often wear fingerpicks on one or both hands. Each ethnic groups' folk dance reflects the peculiarities of their religious, cultural and historical narrative. Performers are clothed in colorful, choreographed costumes. Common themes include rivalry, and love – but also forgiveness – as well as matrimonial bliss. That’s the mission of the Embassy Festival. The eighth edition couldn’t take place at the Lange Voorhout this year due to the Coronavirus, so an online edition was put together. More than 15.000 people checked in via the festival website and hundreds of people bought an Embassy Festival Wine and/or Surprise Box. Many visited the Embassy Festival office at the Noordeinde in The Hague to pick them up and just as many were sent to addresses all over the Netherlands. By doing this, the always enticing International Market was brought to the homes of the festival visitors. To complete the experience, a broad selection of music, cooking workshops, interviews with ambassadors, dance videos and more were published on the Embassy Festival website.
