Sometimes you have to look at the big picture. If you’re in a community with a lot of negative people like a toxic workplace, a bad relationship, or even just a city that’s too stressful. You have to examine is it that specific person you encountered or is it the whole community? Do you need to change jobs? Move to a new city? Are these negative people effecting your outlook too much. If you don’t have any of these things yet, you don’t realize, but the decisions get bigger. The commitments get bigger. You can’t do whatever you want any more because it effects other people. When you’re young you have energy and you’re not strong headed yet. Have you ever met someone who was older and had already been through a lot? Notice that they are reluctant to try new things. They have so many reason not to try something new. Or in some cases, they just refuse to do it. When you’re young not only are you willing to try new things, some people get a thrill just from doing something new. If you make mistakes when you are young, you can fix things. If you lose money, you can earn it back. When you’re young and you’re bold. That’s both good and bad. But for this discussion, it’s good. I remember reading a book from Daymond John, the successful fashion entreprenuer. He’s the guy who started the clothing brand FUBU along with several other brands. He said he didn’t have a college education. He said that “If he knew who hard it was to start a business, he probably never would have done it in the first place”. That’s a powerful statement. I’m not saying to be ignorant to consequences. Trust me I’m someone who plans a lot. But you’re going to have to have some level of blind faith. Because situations will come up that you are completely unprepared for. And you have to roll with it. You have to find solutions on the fly. Sometimes you have to take a risk otherwise there’s not opportunity at all. The most common risk I see among young people is they need to move. If you live in a small town or you want to work in a specific industry, you’re going to have to move to whether the jobs and business are that you want to work with. There’s just no other way. Opportunity will only come if you put yourself in the right spots. The second most common issue is people are afraid of rejection. But it’s nothing. There is always a different opportunity. Sometimes rejection is the best thing that can happen to you. Because that may have actually been the wrong opportunity for you. Imagine if you were rejected from a job interview because of your personality. You wanted the salary, the position, the benefits. But would it even work if your personality didn’t mesh with your co-workers? Rejection is just like a double layer of filtering. Whatever your goal is, there’s going to be someone else who is also trying to do. If you don’t have passion there’s no way to differentiate yourself. And no one will buy your story. How are you going to show your talent and your skill when you are just there for a paycheck. You need passion for your chosen career or business. Or better yet just start my own business. I would take more educational courses. I would take private lessons in all kinds of hard skills. I’d travel the world to learn about culture. I’d move into a nicer house in a nicer neighborhood. I’d buy the tools I need like a good computer and a good smartphone in order to be productive. But you don’t need to be rich or rack up debt to do these things. You can do a lot of this if you change your mentality and you just apply a bit of patience. Patience is key, because you can’t do all of this at once, unless you really are rich. But over a lifetime, you can do a lot of these things. Don’t look at extremes. Don’t assume you’re a slave to money and can’t leave your job or travel or learn more. But don’t also assume that you can get away with blowing money. You just have to look for the opportunities that are already in front of you. And if you want something bad enough, you’ll find a way. If you’re working full time and you want to start a business you can do both. It’s not going to be easy. But then again nothing in life is easy. Heck even if you did quit your job and spent full time working on your business, it’s still hard. There’s no easy answers. A bunch of money dropped on your lap won’t solve your problems.
