I'm going to be testing it out over several weeks to see what it can do, what it's good at, and a few surprising things I didn't realize about this type of device. I'll round things up with the pros and the cons and let you know if I think I can recommend this smart ring for you. Smart Rings vs. Smartwatches Smartwatches and smart rings each have their pros and cons and figuring out which one is best for you really boils down to your preferences. Where they overlap is in the information they track and the data they provide; Ultrahuman Ring Air will track your activity and movement, sleep, heart rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen, among some other things which we’ll get to. The other important factor I will flag early here is that there is no subscription required to access any of the data. Everything is included in the price when you pay upfront for the device. Comfort and Fit I recommend you prioritize comfort when picking a wearable because frequent feelings of discomfort will just lead to reduced usage defeating the point of health tracking. Even when sleeping, you want to keep wearing your smartwatch or smart ring for effective sleep tracking and a smart ring might feel more comfortable overall. Your best bet is to head to a local dealer and try the wearables on as you must factor in the brand, model, size, and watchband. Sizing and colour to your door Well it is possible to try on an Ultrahuman Ring Air at some retailers in the USA, Ultrahuman goes one better and will send a free sizing kit and sample ring set after placing an order so you can touch and try on the wares. What’s in the Box? While the Ultrahuman Ring AIR’s box looks large enough to fit a smartwatch and other stuff, all you get is the Ring AIR itself, a braided USB-C to USB-C cable, the ring charger dock, and some documentation. While Ultrahuman could have gotten away with a smaller packaging, seeing the small ring after lifting the box lid really lets you focus on the jewelry. The ring comes in a fairly elegant package and it looks high and… Like it’s worth the money, which is a nice feeling since it costs $349US, and I will actually give the company major props for pricing it at $349 CAD as well which is a substantial savings for us canucks. Depending on the size you choose, the Ultrahuman Ring AIR can weigh from 2.4 to 3.6 grams which is roughly the same weight as a coin and the ring itself is made of titanium and coated with Tungsten Carbide Carbon. This coating is unfortunately not scratchproof so you might want to take it off when carrying heavy objects or weightlifting at the gym. You can go swimming with it though thanks to its water resistance up to 100 meters. I will say the ring is extraordinarily comfortable. The edges of the ring are smooth and there's no corners or sharp bits. The fit is just like the demo ring I tried on and it feels good on my hand. It's extremely easy to forget I'm wearing it at all. At the bottom of the ring is a small bump which seems to have the main sensor. You can see some of the electronics on the inside as well but from the outside it just looks like an ordinary metal ring. Set up Getting the ring set up is pretty straightforward. Set the ring on its charging dock and let it power up. In the meantime download the free Ultrahuman app and sign into or sign up for an account. Follow the instructions in the app to connect the ring to your phone. I’m glad to say I was connected almost immediately. As part of the set up process you'll answer several health related questions including how tall you are and how much you weigh. So when I heard a Canadian company was using NASA technology that lets you grow fresh food indoors with minimal effort, I had to know more. Meet Plantaform… this space-age, or space-egg looking pod is a garden that lets you grow lettuce, herbs and more with just a bit of water, special plant pods and the magic of fog… I’m Erin TGC and I recently received a Plantaform Indoor Garden on loan from the company to test out for a few weeks in my home. And this review I'll take a look at what's involved with getting this device set up, how it works, how long it takes to grow plants and what the results look like. I'll wrap things up with both the pros and cons and let you know if I think I can recommend this futuristic indoor garden concept for you. What is Plantaform? Platform is a company making indoor gardens called Rejuvenate that uses water and special soil-free plant pods to grow up to 15 plants at once inside this large bubble shaped ecosystem. The garden is filled with water and fertilizer and has built in grow lights so your new garden can grow completely autonomously. It should produce its first crop within about 30 days. The design is totally futuristic; this slightly alien looking egg shaped pod is actually very sleek and modern and I think it looks pretty cool in my home. What also looks pretty futuristic is when the inside of the pod fills with mist… and this is the secret technology that makes Plantaform stand out. Overall review: Plantaform Rejuvenate indoor garden Overall have been really thrilled with this product. I have been looking for an indoor garden option for quite some time but everything seems either too large, too noisy, or just like too much work. I found Plantaform concept to be really ideal and a lot of fun, and it produced a really great crop. On the pro side I really love the design; I think it’s super cool and unique and a great conversation piece. It is incredibly easy to grow anything in this pod. I do like the fact that the seed pods are mess free and there's no soil involved. I also appreciate the fact the company chooses a handful of lettuces that should grow well together so I get both variety and a complementary crop that grows well together. Absolutely everything I need is included in the box including cleaning and maintenance supplies, and the instructions for growing are easy to follow. I love that this pod operates completely silently and autonomously with almost zero intervention required from me during the growing cycle. The lettuce grows relatively quickly, all things considered, and having many different tasty lettuces and greens all maturing over a couple of weeks is really convenient. So what are the potential downsides? The device is obviously quite large and it is a challenge to find a place for it. I would also like to see future versions of this come with some type of stand. I would like to see some future optimization so I could stagger the crop and plant one row at a time of lettuces so I don’t have the whole crop inundating us over a week or two. Stretching that out over a month would be amazing. The per-head lettuce cost is also quite reasonable. I would also like to see a future version of the rejuvenate Garden have some type of automatic water sensor that could actually determine real time levels. And not a downside but something I'm looking forward to as well is the option of DIY growing so I could experiment with my own plants and crops like spinach, broccolini or other herbs.
