Finding historical details of this school I almost gave up on but did track some information down. Called the Lilyfield school, this current 1933 building replaced an earlier 1916 school that was destroyed by fire in 1932. I believe it was abandoned sometime in the 1960's and it is now quickly decaying back to the earth and nature. In the summer months it is very overgrown and hard to even see many of the structures. I did visit this site back over 3 years ago and have always wanted to come back and see if I missed anything or how it may have changed over the years. These are some of my favorite abandoned sites to explore. You can feel the history in a place like this and looking at how the buildings were constructed is very interesting to see. This is the Only Way!【4K】 Description: While recently going through old photos and videos on my phone, I came across footage that I had not fully shared before. September 8th, 2022, was the day we set off to explore the ghost town of Anyox in northern British Columbia. I started recording shortly after we left the dock at the ghost town of Kitsault, not fully aware of the absolute beauty that awaited us. I sat back and took it all in for the next 45 minutes or so. I remember at times looking over at my friend Mike, and without even saying anything, we knew we were in for an adventure we wouldn't forget. This leg of the journey by boat would take us down the Alice Arm of the observatory inlet over to Granby Bay, where the remains of Anyox sit. The scenery and wildlife was nothing short of breathtaking, which is why we should always remember to enjoy the journey, which is just as important as the destination. Among these areas, one of my favorite destinations for exploring is the arid expanse of the badlands. Stretching eastward from Drumheller to Saskatchewan and south to the United States, this region is known as the Canadian Badlands. The early French explorers and traders to these lands named them “bad lands to cross.” The indigenous in these areas had similar names for the terrain referring to it as bad land or eroded land. They feature a rugged terrain of ravines, gullies, buttes, hoodoos, and various stunning rock formations. Many of these geological features were shaped by glaciers and the swift erosion caused by glacial meltwater but some are formed where the grounds surface is easily eroded, with sparse vegetation, and infrequent but heavy rainfall. Today we are going to take a closer look at a feature that can only be seen from above called the Badlands Guardian. Thank you for watching! It is known now as the Heart Creek Bunker or also simply as "The Vault". In the late 1960s, a company called Rocky Mountain Vaults and Archives Ltd. received permits from the Alberta Government to begin the project. They would blast into the side of Mount McGillivray to create one of the world's most secure storage facilities. Stan and Joe Rokosh invested $250,000 in the project. This was during the cold war so the idea was to create a facility to secure important records and documents from potential disaster. The project didn't go to plan and was eventually abandoned.
