Its been an incredible few weeks connecting with people at book stores, events and online to launch my book Go Gently. Thank you so much to everyone who has bought my book, I really appreciate you. I hope you are all enjoying reading it and taking action to nurture yourself and the planet. I started my book tour in New York with The Today Show, followed by a talk with Joe Holder at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square. Footage at the talk was shot by Ben Gross. I visited two of my favorite independent book shops McNally Jackson and Strand. Last stop was an event with For Days for a book reading and an opportunity for people to recycle textiles with their Take Back Bag. Next stop was Los Angeles for a talk with Kevin J Patel at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove. One event I sadly didn’t get any footage from was celebrating Earth Day with LA Compost for a composting workshop and book reading. I then headed to my home town London to speak on BBC Breakfast, then Blue Peter my favourite TV show when I was a kid. A little interlude with the sites of London and vintage clothes shopping with my mum. I then had a book signing at Waterstones in Kensington, it was lovely meeting everyone! I was a Book Fairy for the day as I hid my books around East London for people to find and take for free. I had a great time on This Morning on ITV to demonstrate some recipes from my book with Dermot O’Leary and Allison Hammond. A wonderful evening with Evanna Lynch chatting about my book and our experience as first time writers with the How To Academy. We had such a great turnout at the event and people tuning in on the livestream. My final live interview was on Channel 5 News before tying up the book tour episode with some personal reflections and celebrating with a glass of Prosecco with my parents and Andrew at our favourite local Italian restaurant. In the first episode of 2023 I attempt to knit! Knitting is something I remember first trying with both of my grandmothers. In my memory I think I actually managed to knit something but I think it was probably just me trying, getting impatient and them finishing it beautifully. I experience some very similar impatience in this video but I will be pleased to share I am still knitting and slowly getting better day by day. I was drawn to try knitting again as I feel like it could be a very calming and meditative practice. I am someone who needs active rest activities to really inspire me to truly sit and quiet the mind. Knitting is another skill of many that can make us more resourceful and creative human beings. There is nothing more exciting and liberating than making something ourselves! I love spending hours at The Ecology Center seeing what they're growing participating in workshops, attending their communal dinners and shopping from their abundant farm shop. Its also where Andrew and I got married! So clearly a very important place to me. As I shared in my last episode Navigating Newborn Essentials we are trying as much as we can to make choices around baby items that feel as least wasteful and as most resourceful as possible. Opting for items that can be rewashed and reused many times, made with non-toxic materials and ingredients and secondhand where possible. Below are the two recipes I mention Winter Balm One cup of olive oil or coconut oil One ounce of beeswax 15-20 drops of clary sage essential oil Place the shaved beeswax in a heatproof bowl over a pan with water in, get the water to a gentle boil to allow the beeswax to melt. Then pour in the oil and mix together. Add your essential oil and pour the mixture while still hot into your upcycled jars. Let cool till they harden. Hibiscus Tea More of an ingredient parcel than a recipe. I include two handfuls of dried hibiscus flower, cinnamon stick and some allspice berries. All the person you're gifting it has to do is boil it up with water in a pot and add some sugar to taste.
