Hij is 67 jaar oud geworden. Pieter groeide op op de klei van West-Friesland als oudste zoon van een tuinder en nam met zijn broers het bedrijf over. Al snel specialiseerden zij zich onder de naam Hoff Quality First in de veredeling en teelt van lelies en bouwden ze een zeer groot lelieveredelings-bedrijf op.
