Starting at the town of Tortilla Flat, we took the Apache Trail (SR880) northest. On the drive, you will get to see Apache Lake and sections of the Superstition Wilderness and Goldfield Mountains, including Fish Creek. Fish Creek has not been accessible by vehicle for several years now, while the road was closed. You eventually come to Theodore Roosevelt Dam. We then headed NW on the 188, driving along Roosevelt Lake. After about 11 miles, you come to El Oso Road (FR 143). Take that SW toward Four Peaks, continuing up and over the saddle and eventually back down to the Beeline Highway. Total mileage is around 65~70 miles (Tortilla Flat to the Beeline Highway). The Apache Trail can probably be driven with a 2WD vehicle as long as you have decent clearance. I'd recommend 4WD (with clearance/high clearance) for El Oso Road/SR 143. Enjoy the video. </video> <video> Hiking the Eagle Creek Trail to Tunnel Falls - Oregon Description: Hiking the Eagle Creek Trail to Tunnel Falls - Oregon I first saw pictures and then video of Tunnel Falls years ago. I think it was the first hike in Oregon that went onto my hiking wish list. I didn't really do any research on it since I live in Arizona and figured I would probably never see it in person. But that all changed. Tina loves trees, mountains and forests. She was born and raised in Arizona and met her quota of saguaro cactus a long time ago. So she picked Oregon as our big trip for the year. I do a lot of the research, but for this trip she did most of it.....I just said there's one thing I need to see; Tunnel Falls. Once it became apparent that this would be a reality, I started researching and just got more and more excited. Of course, it was already on her list before I even made this request. The reason is that Tunnel Falls is on the legendary Eagle Creek Trail. That trail in itself is an amazing destination. Tunnel Falls is just one of many sights to see. It was actually the highlight of the trip for us both. The reactions in this video are as genuine as they come. I left them a little less edited because there is no way to overstate how mind blowing it is to see this spot in person. I tried though; which is also why there is one long, extended and uncut shot of us walking through the tunnel itself. There's just nothing that I can do that would make this any more amazing than it is. Anyway, that includes writing a long description about it, so we're done here. Music by Artlist: U235 - Kashido Airae - To Clarify Reunited - Ben Winwood Along the Way - The Hunts </video> <video> Tamolitch Falls / Blue Pool Trail - Oregon Description: Tamolitch Falls / Blue Pool Trail - Oregon We kicked off our trip to Oregon by hiking the Tamolitch Falls / Tamolitch Blue Pool Trail. The trail is located in McKenzie Bridge, Oregon and is an out and back hike. Trail stats are just around 4 miles with 350 ft of elevation change. It’s all in old growth forest and…it’s beautiful. The falls are seasonal and were dry when we went, but that actually added to the tranquility at the pool itself. It’s fed by a spring that you can even see bubbling under the surface. The video speaks for itself; this is a beautiful trail. After finishing the hike, we took the scenic drive on the Highway 242. That’s where things got really interesting. We passed through the deep forest for several miles before coming to some fire damage. And right after that the scenery changed dramatically; suddenly we were driving through the largest lava field I’ve ever seen. This is where we came across the Dee Wright Observatory. Sometimes these unexpected finds are what make adventuring so much fun. Neither of us had any idea it was there. Anyway, I’ll let you look up the observatory and it’s history yourself. We’ll call it a learning experience for you and not at all because I’m too lazy to write it all up here. I cannot for the life of me take a good picture, and he's a great photographer, so he let me use his picture. Check him out on Instagram @ ben.unfairchild He's got a lot of amazing shots on there. Since I've been hiking and backpacking, I swore I would never rock climb. Rock climbers are insane. They risk life and limb to climb rocks that can be appreciated safely from the ground. I appreciate rocks from the ground. My friend Breven apparently cannot appreciate rocks from the ground. He needs to be up close or on top of them. So Breven met this other crazy guy named Troy. Troy climbs things. So they started doing crazy rock climber things together. But hey, they're grown adults, so I'm not going to tell them what to do. But that just wasn't good enough for them. They wanted more. Those evil bastards wanted me to climb rocks. I honestly can't remember exactly how it got started, but the next thing I knew, I was at the rock climbing gym with Breven and his wife climbing. This is perfectly acceptable and actually kinda fun. You may be surprised to learn this, but there are no actual rocks to climb in a rock climbing gym. But this was only step 1 of Breven's evil plan. Step 2 was to tell me how much more fun it was to climb at Camelback Mountain. He said it was a beginner climbing area and would be good for me or something like that. Before I knew it, I agreed. A week later, I found myself at Camelback Mountain. This is where I realized that climbing in the wild was very different than climbing at the gym. Firstly, the hand and foot holds at Camelback were not made of brightly colored and easily identifiable plastic. These were made out of rocks. Most were not even U-shaped into perfect hand holds like the ones at the gym. Many of the safety features such as fall pads and auto belay devices were not present. Worst of all, the rock faces were not sloped at 45 degrees like I had been led to believe. They were more straight up and down. Like a wall of rock. A rock wall. Something like that. But we were there so I climbed them anyway. I did not die, which I found very encouraging. It was then that Breven entered into step 3 of his plan. "Hey, let's walk up to Praying Monk. Just to check it out. We won't climb it." (Praying Monk is a rock formation on Camelback Mountain) So that's how we climbed Praying Monk. And sitting on top of Praying Monk, in the midst of an adrenaline rush, I remembered his video about this thing called The Hand. The Hand is a much more intimidating rock formation in the Superstition Mountains. The reason it's more intimidating is that it is very thin (thin enough to straddle in spots), with a couple hundred feet of exposure on both sides. But I thought his video looked cool and I'd just been tricked into climbing another route on my first day out, so I said "I want to climb the Hand." This is where people may say "Well, you climbed with this guy twice, then asked if you could climb The Hand, so maybe this is your fault?" You shut up. I know my story doesn't really track if you consider things like logic and accountability, but I know what happened. It was his fault. I was tricked. Breven is diabolical. So anyway, we climbed The Hand. It was awesome. We're already making plans to climb some other stuff. Please send help.
