This is the first face-to-face meeting between the KNF and the Government's representative Peace Establishment Committee. The representatives of the KNF all worn white traditional headcloths and traditional clothes as a symbol of peace. In the meeting, Chairman of the Peace Establishment Committee Mr. Kyew Shwe Hla, three senior advisers and two members of the Central Committee of KNF, security forces, senior officials of intelligence agencies were present. Strict security measures were taken in the area around the meeting. Army-BGB-Police-Intelligence Agency members have guarded there. The KNF has held several video conference meetings with the peace-building committee in the past, but this is the first time they have participated in the meeting directly. General Mawia || Colonel Vapualpi Description: No: 15/KNF-P-06 Date: 06/03/2024 THE SECOND ROUND PEACE TALK BETWEEN BANGLADESH GOVERNMENT AND KUKI-CHIN NATIONAL FRONT (KNF)- On March 05, 2024, the second round peace talk between the Peace Establishment Committee (on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh) and the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) was successfully held at Bethel village of Ruma Sub-district under Bandarban District. In the said physical dialogue, some conditions to be observed by both sides during the peace talks, have been unanimously accepted. The conditions accepted are as follows: 1) The 6 (six) point demands submitted by the KNF to the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the draft agreement will be discussed and implemented in the subsequent dialogue; 2) Steps will be taken by the Government as soon as possible for the release of imprisoned KNF/KNA members on bail and the Army Region will be informed as to release of members (if any) imprisoned in the Army Zone; 3) On the points raised by the KNF, the issue of employment of porters through the army camps (especially in Remakri Pransha area) will be properly evaluated and the army will be informed about the payment of fair remuneration. If porters are employed, all communities must be equally included. 4) Education, health and food assistance programs will be continued as before for the betterment of the Kuki-Chin people on behalf of the government. This has to be expedited; 5) Necessary steps will be taken by the Government to create a favourable environment for the return of all Kuki-Chin people (internal refugee) to their native places/villages; 6) Both sides are determined to resolve any issues arising through dialogue. The KNF will not engage in any armed activities during the ongoing peace process and will continue to make maximum efforts to maintain regional communalism. To this end, the KNF will maintain a cooperative relationship with the security forces to maintain the stability of the law and order situation. 7) The next dialogue to establish peace is likely to be held on 22 April 2024 (subject to discussion).
