The officers have been identified as Northeast Area Police Officer II Joshua Moses, Serial No. 41535 and Police Officer I Emanuel Duran, Serial No. 45728. **The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed** Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) in Northeast Division. On November 22, 2024, around 2:00 p.m., Northeast Division uniformed patrol officers responded to a radio call of a male with mental illness, experiencing suicidal ideations, and armed with a handgun in front of a residence in the 5000 block of N. La Roda Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers saw the subject, later identified as 50-year-old Carlos Casillas, on the front porch of a residence. Officers remained next to their police vehicles and attempted to communicate with Casillas, who was armed with a handgun. Casillas fired the handgun, and an exchange of gunfire between Casillas and the officers occurred. Following the Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS), Casillas moved out of the officers’ line of sight, and additional resources were requested to the area. Shortly after that, Casillas re-emerged at the front of the residence but refused to comply with orders to surrender. With the assistance of Metropolitan Division K-9 units and pursuant to a long line directed deployment, which resulted in a K-9 bite, Casillas was ultimately taken into custody. It was discovered Casillas had sustained gunshot wounds as a result of the OIS. Casillas was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his wounds and listed in stable condition. Casillas was booked for Attempted Murder of a Police Officer. No officers or other community members were injured during this incident. A 9mm semi-automatic handgun and empty magazine were located near the front porch of the residence, and four discharged 9mm cartridge casings were located within the OIS crime scene. The firearm, magazine, and cartridge casings were booked into evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed** Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Southwest Division that involved Harbor Division and Southeast Division officers. On November 26, 2024, at around 12:17 p.m., Harbor Division uniformed patrol officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Domestic Violence suspect in the area of South Gaffey Street and West 19th Street. The comments of the call indicated the victim, a bus driver, was being followed by the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Aundre Jones, who was armed with a firearm and driving a white Maserati. The victim and Jones had a prior dating relationship and have a child in common. Harbor Division officers observed Jones’ vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Jones fled from the officers, and a vehicle pursuit ensued, which traversed the 110 freeway and terminated when Jones drove his vehicle to the rear of an apartment building in the 3000 block of West Boulevard. Jones exited his vehicle and walked eastbound down an alley toward the street. Jones then produced two firearms, one in each hand, and pointed them at the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. Jones fired multiple rounds at the officers. Jones was struck by gunfire and taken into custody without further incident. Officers placed Jones in a recovery position and monitored him until the arrival of Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) personnel, who transported Jones to a local hospital, where he was admitted for his injuries. Jones succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical staff on November 27, 2024. Two 9mm semi-automatic handguns were recovered next to Jones at the scene. Both handguns were booked as evidence. A female bystander who approached Jones during the OIS was also struck by gunfire and sustained an injury to her right arm. Officers rendered aid until the arrival of LAFD, who transported her to a local hospital, where she was treated and released for her injury. No officers or other community members were injured during this incident. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed** Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Southeast Division. On November 1, 2024, at around 9:00 pm, Southeast Division uniformed patrol officers responded to a radio call in the area of 92nd Street and South Central Avenue. The suspect, later identified as Nija Hill, pistol whipped two victims in an alley adjacent to a laundromat, located near the 9200 block of South Central Avenue. Hill then entered the laundromat and threatened several additional victims while still armed. Hill then proceeded to the exterior of the business where he again threatened several vendors with the firearm. As officers arrived, they observed Hill standing on the sidewalk outside of the laundromat, who immediately fled, and a short foot pursuit ensued. During the foot pursuit, Hill produced a firearm and fired at officers, which resulted in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS), near the 9200 block of South Central Avenue. Both officers were struck by gunfire and the suspect escaped. Officers broadcast a Help Call and set up a perimeter in the surrounding area. In the interim, Hill fled to the area of 93rd street and Clovis Avenue where he attempted to carjack an additional victim. The carjack attempt was unsuccessful, and Hill hid within the perimeter. Metropolitan Division Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) responded to the scene and after an extensive search, located Hill in the area of 92nd Street and Wadsworth Avenue, where he was taken into custody without incident. It was observed during his detention that Hill had sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg during the OIS. Hill was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his wound and cleared for booking. Both officers were also transported to a local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics where they were treated for their wounds and subsequently discharged. Additionally, a single victim of the ADW was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and discharged for his injuries. A Glock Model 17, 9mm, semi-automatic firearm and empty magazine were located in a trash receptacle in the area of 93rd Street and Clovis Avenue and nine discharged 9mm cartridges were located within the OIS crime scene. The pistol, magazine, and cartridge casings were processed and booked into evidence. On November 23, 2024, around 1:41 p.m., West Valley officers were in vehicle pursuit of a stolen vehicle. During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle was involved in a crash with a third-party vehicle near Mason Avenue and Saticoy Street. The third-party vehicle then collided with two additional vehicles on Saticoy Street near Mason Avenue. The occupant of the third-party vehicle was pronounced deceased at scene. On November 27, 2024, at 6:03 a.m., a pedestrian was crossing westbound on Western Avenue at 7th Street in a marked crosswalk when they were struck by a light gray or blue 2004-2006 Acura MDX traveling north on Western Avenue. After the collision, the driver of the Acura MDX failed to stop, identify themselves, or render aid to the pedestrian, as required by law. The vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on Western Avenue near 4th Street. The vehicle involved in the collision is believed to have damage on the front right passenger side.
