While Black students were found to be less likely to report poor mental health, they were significantly more likely to have attempted suicide compared to their Asian, Hispanic, and White peers. The pandemic has also presented additional challenges for youth, including limited access to mental health support and social isolation. To address these alarming trends, we discuss three ways to support Black youth's mental health. First, we must ensure that Black youth have clear pathways to access high-quality, affordable, culturally competent mental health care. Secondly, we can support the mental health of Black youth inside schools by implementing comprehensive school mental health programs. Lastly, we encourage Black youth to ask for help and know that it is okay to do so. By prioritizing mental health care and support for Black youth, we can work together to reduce mental health disparities and promote the well-being of our youth.
