Each one left me stammering and self conscious in a way that I’m not used to. Watching them back on a big screen elicited some other unexpected emotions from me. I experienced fear, a bit of disgust and a dollop of curiosity. I don’t entirely know why. My pupils seem too small (due to the sunlight). My smile seems too lopsided. I’m too much expression or too little. Yet, my memory proved this exercise to be a success. Because I tried to picture you— —and that is what I set out to do here. For someone who loves words, I often find myself lacking when the time comes to vocally expressing something important 😂 I feel at home within a written page. Now, I feel at home here. I was stunned by the sheer amount of talent and variety present within former strangers! ✨ It was truly remarkable to experience, your poems, paper art, quilling, drawings, short stories, photography, crafts, floral designs, and more! I have been composing responses to do your work justice (and I still need to respond to quite a few!) and remain amazed by the ability to share things online. This week, I set out to explore my changing valley. By the time you watch this, it will have been my anniversary of returning to this place. It's special and I feel special to see it change--to be present as it grows. I have learned a lot this last year. I will no doubt make a video about all I have learned, but I will say I have had many "firsts" while living here. At times--I have felt more connected to my surroundings than ever before. I experience music in the same way I experience people. It can be distant and near, warm and cold, loving and loved. I have gotten the chance to spend unbroken time with my music. It reacquainted me with the joy of truly dedicating yourself to a project. In the world of creative work, I have been often pulled in many directions at once. Being an incredibly scattered person-- I often find this spread of passions and responsibilities difficult to balance. Learning to do just that has marked my progression into adulthood, both as a creative and in general. That being said, it is currently midnight as I type to you 😂 This video is simple. Many of the things that I most treasure are simple. Everything you have given me has been the simple gesture of a friend. I'm lucky to do the same in return. Description: Dear friend, This week helped me lay the foundation for a few projects I'm planning. To say I'm excited would be an understatement. In an effort to share something with you, I put together a few of my favourite visions from these last couple weeks. Many are Timelapses of the night sky. I am drawn to the night sky more and more these days. I often take short walks at night when I can't sleep (which, unfortunately has been rather often, lately). My ears focus on the sounds of my feet as I shatter rapidly melting spans of ice. Spring has come early. Very early. This is my first time living year round in the Methow Valley. I love it here. This valley has brought with it a change of life that I welcome. Yet, I sometimes find myself lonely. On those days, I go out and sit for a while amidst the spinning snow, leaves, wind, waves, and stars. Strangely enough, it is in that isolated state that I grow happy again and ready to reconnect with the people I love. As an insight into the projects I'm currently working on, Im exploring an eclectic mix of things: - I'm putting together an Etsy store for my photography prints and digital files as well as some other pieces of art. This should prove to be a most educational experience! My physical items will be released in limited batches (at least, that's the current plan). I'm trying to figure out how to best create a system for quickly packing/shipping my creations as I can imagine it could take an incredible amount of time out of my schedule. - I'm looking into starting a Patreon page after many of you suggested the idea. These have been some of my favourite songs to explore. Every song I write ultimately originates from a story. Every story gives me a structure with which to build a melody. It's an enchanting experience to feel like you've "discovered" a song instead of writing it. - I don't know if you know this, but I work as a freelance filmmaker. My focus is as a colorist/mastering artist (a filmmaker involved with the final virtual effects and colour of a movie/video). This is an area within which I've developed my expertise and it's proven to be the biggest point of development I've had as a filmmaker. After years of teaching myself and working in the industry, I'm finally ready to start teaching others. As a result, I'm making a course called "Filmmaker for Non-Filmmakers" (working title 😂) where I'm trying to share my approach to learning this fascinating field in as simple and digestible a way as possible. I have grown fond of these simpler videos where I get to share more earnestly without the distraction of a "film" getting in the way. This week, I asked you for some questions (in addition to the ones from some of your physical letters) and you graced me with thoughtful words. Thank you for that and thank you for being here! Here's a random musing: I've had many thoughts floating around in my head lately regarding my continued approach to social media. This fascinating and strange place is in a constant state of flux. It will continue to change and so will its culture. I have quickly found myself having to learn to just "release" often instead of honing or perfecting any given video. This is evidenced by my approach of posting a film one week and a simpler video the next. The requirement of weekly posting has been incredibly educational and generally beneficial to me. I have written over 150 individual tunes for this channel. That's more than I would have imagined writing in my lifetime, let alone six months! However, as time goes on, the choice between 'content' and 'art' will continue to move into the forefront of my experience. What's made this exploration worth it has been you. Your comments, letters, and thoughtful philosophies continue to enrich my life. As a result, it's with you that my actual work lies. As I explore with you, I will continue to look for ways for us to connect, be it simple or colourful. It's nice to meet you!

I'm a confused young artist living in a remote town amid the mountains of Washington State. I play music, make films and try things that scare me. (lots of things scare me)

I've spent a long time away from directly connecting with social media. Now that I'm back, my goal is to try and rebuild this relationship in a more positive way--a sincere way.

I love many things, but I'm also trying to learn about love itself. That is something I'll be doing for the rest of my life. That makes me happy.

I've been lucky in many ways. I'm grateful in many more.
