Description: With our freshly machined AMC 304 block back from M&M Head Service in Delaware Ohio, it's time to knock the last little bits of crap out of the block, do a very thorough cleaning, and start assembling the short block. Fortunately for us we already had a set of 304 AMC V8 rods and .030 pistons from a previous project, so we're reusing those to keep this very budget minded, it is after all, for a wood chipper! Who doesn't love a hot rod wood chipper right? Well, has anyone ever actually seen a hot rod wood chipper? There's always a first right? The heads of this motor have been off and at least refreshed in the not too distant past so those just needed a minor cut and they are ready to go back on. Install the flat tappet camshaft, make sure our line is true, and we can keep moving forward. </video> <video> Undiagnosed Driveline Vibration in the shop! PROPER Diag is KEY! Description: Anyone who pays attention to what we do here at Lucore Automotive knows we have a reputation for doing a lot of the complicated or challenging jobs most other shops can't or WON'T handle. Today, that's exactly what we're doing. Our new customer comes to us after being at multiple other shops with a very obvious vibration you can feel running down the road. The initial thoughts were that the guibo joint was bad, it turns out, there's a bit more to this problem than a joint replacement. But that's what we're here for! </video> <video> Hot Rod Wood Chipper RETURNS! Machining is DONE! Description: That's right, you read the title right! Our AMC 304 V8 Powered Wood Chipper is going to live again! After some, or a lot, of machining by our good friend Mike at M&M Head Service in Delaware, the 304 AMC block is ready for final cleaning and reassembly. Fortunately for us, we have been doing a lot of AMC V8 stuff over the last few years and though the bores of this block were horrible, we happened to have a used set of .030 over pistons and rods already sitting around. So block work, clean up the crankshaft, and we're ready to put this thing back together and back into service! Thanks for turning this around so quickly Mike! </video> <video> Plymouth Barracuda project getting CLOSE! Fuel and Spark Solutions! Description: The 1968 Plymouth Barracuda we are doing a repower on is down to the "little bits" like fuel and ignition, which we're trying to tidy up and make just right! With the new ACES EFI system on top of the ATK 360 Mopar crate engine, we had some plumbing and wiring to resolve but it's getting very close to the first fireup! As with any project car there are frustrating walls to climb over and we're finally clearing what we HOPE are a few of the last ones. Many many car builds end up sitting languishing when they can't get past a certain point and we're just a couple days away from finally firing this thing up. Keep focused, wrenching, and finding solutions! </video> <video> Barracuda Project Hits a SNAG! Drill and Tap a new Coolant Sensor! Description: There's always surprises whenever you are doing a build, today we're dealing with one we have put off for a while, drilling and tapping a new coolant temp sensor in our brand new crate Mopar 360! With our ACES EFI system we need a coolant sensor, so, we're making a hole. Well, more accurately making a hole a bigger hole. Hot rod building is always a challenge and involves overcoming obstacles. Some of them are big, some of them are small. This Plymouth Barracuda project is coming along and getting very close to first fire up! </video> <video> Plymouth Barracuda STILL has no spark! Troubleshooting headaches! Description: The saga continues as we try to figure out the continued ignition issues on our customers 1968 Plymouth Barracuda project. With a crate motor under the hood, that came with a brand new MSD "ready to run" distributor and a ACES EFI system on top, this thing SHOULD be ready to go. However, no spark means no fire. Time to dive even deeper into the troubleshooting, are we having fun yet? </video> <video> AMC V8 Reassembly Continues! BOTTOM END Building with our AMC 304 Description: Last video with out 304 AMC V8 we got the block final cleaned and dropped in the crank shaft, now it's time to get the rods and pistons in, slide on the timing set, and make sure everything spins freely. One the great selling points of the AMC V8 is they are essentially all the same, so building an AMC 304, AMC 360, AMC 401 they are all using the same style parts and process. In our case this is a AMC 304 build, but this process is the same across all displacements. Oh, and did we mention this one is going in our Hot Rod Wood Chipper? </video> <video> Challenger Hellcat HELLISH Drag Race Alignment COMPLETED! Description: What came in as a "simple" drag race alignment on this 2023 Dodge Challenger Hellcat quickly became a very big headache as we discovered a whole lot of adjustments that needed made, and not a lot of ability to adjust! When it comes to custom alignment work, you won't find anyone in the region who does more and spends more time to get it right than us here at Lucore Automotive. Let's get this Hellcat back together and back on the road and track! In the previous video we went over the challenges and issues we were having with the car, well with this episode it's going back together but not without some grinding and modifying to get our alignment just right. With caster, camber AND toe needing adjusted, we've got our work cut out for us on this one to get it ready for fun season! </video> <video> Infiniti QX56 / QX80 Crank Code? Limp mode? DIAG and FIX! Description: Here we go again, another one of these Infiniti SUVs we've become known for around here! Coming to us from another shop after an engine swap there's a Crank Sensor Code and the vehicle continues to go into limp mode. Time for some diagnostics! As one of Ohio's premiere independent mechanic shops we pride ourselves on fixing the difficult and out of the ordinary. Day 1 Description: It's December again which means the 2024 Performance Racing Industy has rolled into Indianapolis Indiana once again! As always I also make sure to catch the Women in Motorsports Panel as well. On the show floor we run into an chat with a whole lot of great industry folks and as you can see in the thumbnail met up with Joe William of ByePolar Performance as he shows off his all new Mustang creation. We meet up with a ton of great vendors from all over the country, notably a lot from the Ohio area, and wrap it up with the folks of Aces EFI! Description: We're getting this 1968 Plymouth Barracuda to the point of firing up, unfortunately it seems like our brand new MSD ready to run ignition system that came in our ATK crate engine isn't throwing spark. With the new ACES Killshot EFI system we are looking for a little blue blinky light, but there's no blinky blinky! Doing a hot rod build or classic car build is always tricky, especially when you have various parts from various manufacturers and have to try to get them all working together and playing nicely. Double check, verify, then figure out a solution! </video> <video> Chevy Short Bus No Start? NOT what you might think! Description: The bread and butter normal work we do is what keeps the lights on and what keeps the bills paid around here, and that's what we're working on today. This "short bus" was towed in to us with a no start condition after a previous mechanic had loaded up and fired the parts cannon at it. New starter, new alternator, "new" battery... and still it doesn't start! Let's dive in to discover just what it is that's causing this no start condition, and give our customer a proper solution. It's certainly not what you might think! </video> <video> AMC 304 V8 Rebuild, Top End Time! A bit of head work required! Description: We're moving forward on the 304 AMC V8 rebuild for our Hot Rod Wood Chipper project and it's time to get these heads bolted on to the block. However before we do that, need to make sure they are ready to go, giving a quick skim cut, and lapping in the valves. Doing an "at home rebuild" you often times will make do with what you've got, in our case this AMC 304 is getting a couple extra touches while we're in here. Now yes, this is going in a wood chipper, and it's going to live life as an industrial implement, but it's also something we want to make sure is done right, and that will be able to perform for the long haul. Description: It's still race car season around here, just because there's ice and snow on the ground doesn't mean that stops! Today we have a 2023 Dodge Challenger Hellcat in the shop for a drag race alignment, and though it needs tweaking for sure, nothing is drastically out. However, that does NOT mean that the fixes for all these little changes are going to be anything near simple or easy. With any custom alignment or race car alignment there are always going to be challenges to overcome, and every single car will have it's own unique solution. Having an extensive amount of Mercedes R&D under this "American Muscle Car" adds a whole different degree of challenges with the lack of adjustability. Strap in this one is a long, involved, and frustrating one! </video>
