Brett is a retired logistics officer out of Alaska. After 23 yrs of service in the Army Brett relocated to Otter Creek, FL, where he purchased a campground. Therese was with the postal service for over 18 years. We met in Otter Creek and got married. We spent years turning a dilapidated campground into a beautiful, quiet RV park. During our time in Otter Creek, Therese became Mayor of this small 100-person town. Months into her term, an opportunity presented itself for a new adventure. We decided to go for it. We sold the campground, bought an RV, and are hitting the road! Now we have a homebase in Tennessee. Description: Today we are heading to Decherd to go to an estate sale. It is a cold day in Tennessee, so a lot of people have showed up looking for something indoors to do. It is the first day of the sale, so everything is full price. We arrived 15 minutes into the sale and already someone purchased the one thing I had my eye on. Brett really loves this house. I think if we didn't already have one, he might try to buy it. It is so interesting to not only see all the rare finds but to be able to see the older decor. It was like taking a step back in time. We had a great time talking to people and looking at all the stuff. It is great to be able to save a few bucks and meet great people. It started on February 1,1940 at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Portsmouth, Virginia, Battleship USS ALABAMA (BB-60) has had a remarkable career. Ending up in Mobile, Alabama as a National Historic Landmark and memorial to millions. In May 1962, the Federal Government announced that BB-60 would be scrapped, but a forward-looking group of Alabamians saw a bright future in the aging warship. They envisioned the ALABAMA as the anchor attraction of a Veterans Memorial Park to be located in Mobile. Description: Today, we are visiting the Sign Post Forest. It is Watson Lake’s most famous attraction. Visitors from around the world have been bringing signs from their hometowns to the Sign Post Forest since 1942. This tradition began during the Alaska Highway Project in 1942, when U.S. soldier Carl K. Lindley spent time in Watson Lake recovering from an injury. A commanding officer asked him to repair and erect the directional signposts, and while completing the job, he added a sign that indicated the direction and mileage to his hometown of Danville, Illinois. Others did the same behind him, and the trend caught on. In 1990, a couple from Ohio added the 10,000th sign in the Signpost Forest. Today, there are over 77,001 signs in the Forest. This number grows each year as visitors contribute signs and continue the tradition. The Town of Watson Lake maintains the site. They continue to add more sign posts as they fill up. You can bring along a sign to add to the forest or make one at the Visitor Information Centre. Fun Fact: While you’re there, you’ll also come across pieces of equipment that were used during the construction of the Alaska Highway. A time capsule and cairn was placed at the Sign Post Forest in 1992. This will be opened again in 2042. This is Part 1 of 2. It has 48 RV sites with full water, sewage and 30/50 amp hookups. As well as 10 primitive camping tent sites. There is a bathhouse and laundry facilities on site with picnic tables at each pad. It is located in Fort Walton Beach, Fl. This is a first-come, first-served campground. Military campgrounds are for authorized users and the eligibility varies by base. Then we headed to Destin. Welcome to Fort Moore's premier vacation destination! Destin Army Recreation Area is a gated resort in the heart of Old Destin, near the Harbor Walk Village, just 220 miles south of Fort Moore, between Pensacola and Panama City. The resort spans 15 acres along the Choctawhatchee Bay, minutes from the Gulf of Mexico. They have 2- and 3-bedroom villas, 1-bedroom suites, hotels and studios, RV sites, and a full-service marina. There is a pool and a splash pad. This is definitely a spot we will be visiting again. The camp has 20 sites with water and electric. All sites are pull-through with an asphalt 5MPH road around the park. Each site has parking and a picnic table. Restrooms/showers and a laundry room are also on-site, with 2 washers and 2 dryers. There are also 2 tent sites. There is no electric or water at the tent sites. Post'l Point is near the beach with great fishing, but no sewer hookups. Submarine USS Drum Description: Today we are visiting USS Alabama Memorial Park. In this video we will be taking you inside the National Historic Landmark WWII submarine USS DRUM (SS-228). The DRUM is the oldest American submarine on public display. Also at the Battleship Memorial Park is the Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion, home to an extensive aircraft collection, historic vehicles and war artifacts. Dedicated to all of Alabama’s Medal of Honor recipients, the Aircraft Pavilion features a memorial wall that pays tribute to these heroes. The USS DRUM was donated to the USS ALABAMA Battleship Commission on April 14,1969 and was brought to Mobile to join the USS ALABAMA at Battleship Memorial Park as a war memorial and museum. She was opened to the public for tours on July 4, 1969. We had so much fun visiting and learning. The weather was not the greatest on this day but we made the best of it.
