I start with a masterboard and cut out the circles with a die cut machine (Big Shot). Next I look through my postage stamps for something interesting, and also cut out some papers that go with the stamps. Do you have any colorful stickers? Those can go on next. Lastly, I use gold ink around the edges. They are "coins" after all 😉. What’s the purpose? Why make them? Description: #masterboard #collageart #margaretemiller If you are not familiar with masterboards, and have questions about why someone would make one, what's the purpose, or what do you do with them when you’re done, then you've come to the right place. That's what I'm talking about in today's video. A masterboard is created from a large piece of paper that you first embellish and then cut down into smaller art. Why is using a masterboard such a great idea? Because it allows you to create a bunch of smaller art more efficiently by cutting down an embellished piece rather than if you start with the small sizes and embellish each one separately. Also, your final small art pieces all have a similar theme that you can use in other projects. I'll show you my strategies for getting the most out of a masterboard, and I'll also show you how I collage my masterboard before cutting down the sections into their final pieces. I'm Margarete Miller, first and foremost a collage artists who loves to use vintage ephemera when creating art. I am also the publisher, author, and creator of collage art books to encourage and inspire you to create collage art of your own. I love working on junk journals, gluebooks, rolodex art cards, ATCs, and art journals in general.

I make YouTube videos to show you the projects I am working on, and to invite you to create with me. While I share lots of tutorials on how to start with basic collage art, I also like to explore the reasons that stop people from creating. Sometimes it's having too many art supplies. Sometimes it's not enough time. Sometimes it's being in a creative rut. Sometimes it's not understanding a concept such as what is a junk journal and what it the purpose of making one.
