Why didn't I use leave-in or curl cream? Because it would be way too heavy for my hair. Let's talk about the LBP gel itself. Ever used the livon serum? It feels exactly like that on the hand. It has a silicone-like texture. But note that the product claims to be silicone free! Ok so now I started off with 6 pumps for one section of hair. I usually load up on gel. Each pump serum dispenses a teeny tiny bit of product so quantity wise, it felt right for me. But then when I felt the product on my hair, I knew I had over-done it. I had over-moisturized my hair! See I am just starting to talk about over-moisturization, (having coined/introduced the concept of over-moisturization and under moisturization in wavy and curly haircare myself), but my struggle with it is not new. Now that I understand how to cope, I am being vocal with my tips. I did not want to talk about it before I had a handle on things. So, coming back to over-moisturization, when you go through it enough, you will start to understand how the hair needs to feel while styling. When you touch your hair, you will be able to recognize what under-moisturized, adequately moisturized and over-moisturized hair feels like to the touch. Here I instantly felt like my hair was over-moisturized. My best bet would be to wash it all off and start again. But since it's winter and I was feeling particularly lazy, I decided to wipe my hair down and then drench it with water (using a chai matka). Since I realized that the gel was moisturizing, upright styling would not work for me. When using products that give me low to medium volume, a half up half down routine is my best bet. The person who introduced me to a half up half down technique in 2020 is my friend Princy @curlsandchill on Instagram (a curly creator from Dubai. She's an absolute sweetheart). Once I started half up half down styling, I started to see lots of wet frizz. The hair would not lay smooth and flat against each other. To control this issue, I had to use my pink brush. The boar bristles smooth down the hair so well! My wide tooth comb could never! So, then I created my clumps with my boar bristle brush (top section only) In total I used 8 pumps of gel for all my hair. I micro-plopped, plopped, diffused till 80% dry, root clipped and then air dried. The result, my hair had a very light cast. I did not need oil to break the cast. The result: hair looks slightly more natural. It looks more elongated; clumps are not robust (because my hair would not allow me to use more gel). My results look slightly low in volume with less shrinkage. The product gave me a slightly more effortless look, which is ironic considering all the effort and chaos that ensued from BTS. Day 2 hair was limp, no body, stretched out wavy look. Have you seen my stories this week? Did you see how low volume and limp my hair looked? That should give you an idea of what to expect during the week when using this product. Some may prefer this because it's easier to create hairstyles on less robust clumps. What did I like about the product? It was so easy to detangle on the next washday. None of my formed tangles. Hair looked decently moisturized during the week. I didn't have to dry refresh or even separate my clumps. The final verdict: Is this product for me? No!
