This channel reveals the fascinating life and interesting behaviour of wildlife on a small piece of land in the northern region of Denmark. My name is Morten Hilmer and I am a wildlife photographer. I see it as my mission to re-wild nature where I live so that it once again can find its own balance. To learn about the creatures that surround me, I started this project in 2021. In July 2022 we had had 8.4 million views and a great community of engaged, enthusiastic people following along every day and doing a great job registering and documenting all behaviours and encounters. Description: Our 24/7 livestream is visited by foxes and many other animals every day, and our great community for posting time stamps and identification of the animals have a busy time keeping track of all the animals. We especially see a lot of fox activity at the moment, which is obviously due to the mating season here in January and February. Until now we have never been lucky to see foxes mate or doing an attempt here on the livestream. But on a cold February night this was exactly what happened :) The entire run-up to mating started around 00:23, where the fox activity increased, and after about one hour, the act appears. Our dedicated community has made a timeline of activity (timestamps are related to the timestamp in the lower left corner of the video): 00:23 - 00:30 // Fox enters from the mid-left. Walks over to the arch and starts to snack around. Looks to the right while eating. Takes off at a trot under the arch into the darkness. 00:31 - 00:32 // Fox trots in from up left to under the arch. Stops to sniff around under the arch. Exits to the right under the arch. 00:34 - 00:34 // Fox eyeshine under the arch moving from right to left. 00:35 - 01:01 // Fox enters from up left and snacks around fern hill. Quickly exits to the mid-left. 01:01 - 01:14 // Fox enters from under the arch. Pauses and watches before entering the area to snack. Sits by the plum tree and eats his snacks while looking around. He's a fox of leisure. Exits at a trot under the arch to return and trot off mid-right. 01:14 - 01:14 // Fox comes from the bush, exit lower left. Fox comes out of the bush, passing behind the twigs on the right, returns. Exit up left. 01:15 - 01:15 // Another fox comes from the bush and runs through. 01:17 - 01:18 // Fox named Moonshine enters in low right, to snack. Being "disturbed", to say the least 01:18 - 01:19 // The male fox, called Bandido rushes in on Moonshine and they mate twice. Male fox exits off under arch. The female fox (Moonshine) exits in the low right. 01:19 - 01:20 // Wild chase from up right to up left. The mating male and possibly chased by another male fox called Blacksocks. Apparently this mating attemp was not succesfull. Several males have flocked around her (Moonshine) and fought for her favour. Description: What an astonishing and unexpected moment we’ve captured! We never anticipated witnessing such behavior from a magpie. In the right corner of the frame, a chaffinch rests quietly, possibly unwell or fatigued. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a magpie swoops down with astonishing speed. In a breathtaking display of nature’s raw instincts, it attacks the unsuspecting chaffinch, leaving viewers stunned as it triumphantly flies away with its prey. This encounter showcases the unpredictable drama of wildlife, reminding us of the harsh realities of survival in the wild. The mother had 5 kittens with here, when they entered from behind the plum tree and approached the camera, following the small stream. Numerous birds were enjoying the freshly delivered snacks before the snowfall covered the ground. Silence and peacefulness was suddenly disturbed by the sparrowhawk looking for a meal. All the best Morten </video> <video> 🔴 24/7 LIVE: Inside a Tawny Owl Nest - by Morten Hilmer © Description: Have a look inside the nest of a Tawny Owl. This nest is located near my small farm in the northern part of Denmark. Last year, I actually sat it up for squirrels but nature never stop surprising. Only a day after I placed the nest box, a female owl visited the nest for the first time. In the beginning the female Tawny Owl only came to visit the nest a few times each night and only for a few minutes. After a while though she stayed all day and only left at night to go hunting and every so often the male appeared in the opening. We named the owls Frida and Theodor. Suddenly one day it happened - what we all hoped for. She laid four eggs of which three of them hatched. Early summer the three young owls left the nest and I saw them around the farm all summer. --- Now the camera is once again placed in the nest, and who knows if we will have visitors again this year. But on two cold February nights this was exactly what happened :) The mating attempt on February 10th, can bee seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkziqF4It6U Then again on February 11th, this is what happened. - The female fox called Moonshine meets with another fox called Astaire and completed what we see as a successful mating. We are so exited, and really hope to see fox cubs this spring. But we might be at the end of April, beginning of may, until the cubs will leave the den just close by. Pay attention to how it nurses its feathers and how observant it is to birds and sounds around. Description: How quick does it sometimes go from when Morten puts out snacks to the arrival of the animals? It’s a subject we often talk about when feeding by the livestream. Maybe the animals are just waiting in the bushes for us to leave so they can grab the snacks. The time from feeding to the animals appears is quite different, and what makes the difference is hard to say. On January 29th 2024, it had been a quiet day, when Morten around 5 in the afternoon went to put out snacks. Only few minutes after he left the area, the fox was there to take advantage of the freshly put snacks. Later on the Marten arrived.
