Douglas Gehr is a retired Church of the Brethren pastor with a keen interest in local history and antique clocks.  He and his wife live in Ephrata, PA, where he was born.  He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Ephrata Cloister Associates, the Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley, where he chairs the Museum and Library Committee, and the NAWCC.  Doug also chairs the Historical Committee of the Atlantic Northeast District, Church of the Brethren.  He has been a tour guide at the Cloister for about four years.  His family ancestry includes two persons who were members of the Cloister community.   His latest book is entitled Sacred Simplicity: Worship Spaces Among the Brethren in Eastern Pennsylvania and will be available on Kindle. </video> <video> Collecting Conversations, Episode 7: The Quest for the Charles Allison Collection Description: My Grandfather's Clocks: The True Story of a Grandson’s Search for an American Inventor’s Lost Collection https://tinyurl.com/yxrxckf8 Greg Gerard Allison has been on a quest to find the timepieces crafted by his grandfather, Charles Allison, in the first half of the 20th century. The clocks had been lost for more than 60 years, until Greg's research led him to recover the collection, a journey that led him from New York to Montana. This tower was donated in the 1870s and completed in 1886. Later, another family donated the clock that was installed in 1900. This was a Seth Thomas, Model No. 16, tower clock movement. Keith shares the history of caretakers of the tower. In 2000, the clock stopped and was then repaired by a member of the NAWCC from Huntsville, AL. The English Change Ringing Bells were later installed. Keith Henley joined the NAWCC in 2005 after meeting with Walt and Joanne Wilson and Jim and Renee Coulson at the Breslin Tower Clock in Sewanee, TN. Since that time, Keith has served as the caretaker of the tower clock. Keith is an active member of the NAWCC, where he served as past vice president and past president of the Rocket City Regulators Chapter 61, a member of the Tower and Street Clock Chapter 134, and the British Horology Chapter 159. Hosted by Cog Counters Chapter 194 Russ details the life and distinctive clocks of case maker Wm. Hickcox of Watertown, CT, and North Bridgewater, NY. In the wooden movement clock era, there were likely hundreds of case makers working in obscurity, and Hickcox surely was one.
