This is mycorrhizal mushroom species that grows on the roots of trees. It's favorite trees are Hazelnut and Oak. It grows in a high pH environment, of 7.9-8.0 being optimal. My trees were growing in 7.8 pH. I finally had my seedling tested for mycorrhizal activity, and it shows a negative result for all trees tested. It's unfortunate, but it was an experiment that taught me a lot about mycorrhizal fungi. The reason I think this is a mandatory piece of equipment is because it's easy to forget that an autoclave is running, and it's not good to leave them running for too many hours, especially if it's unsupervised. </video> <video> How Much Electricity Does My Small Mushroom Farm Use? Description: People have asked me who much electricity or power a small scale mushroom farm uses each month, and how much that costs. In this video we look at how much energy or electricity draw my current farm uses. What each device can draw, and we also look at the current power draw it is doing per hour. Small scale mushroom farming can be a very profitable business model when done correctly, but all costs should be correctly accounted for. Description: We all love a Bugatti Chiron, but is it really a good vehicle when compared to the John Deere 5520? I think not. Most influencers will have you believe obtaining a Bugatti is the pinnacle of success, but that's not really the case. Here at the Oak and Spore mushroom farm we strive to bring the best quality gorumet mushrooms to the New Zealand market. To do that we need a tractor, so a tractor is what we purchased! We bought this second hand for about $34k NZD, and we are going to be using it for all the heavy lifting here at the farm. We carefully decide what to spend our capital on, and the tractor was due. Our farm has grown at a good pace yearn-on-year, and we expect growth to continue to happen for many years to come. Well wonder no longer! I take you through an Oak and Spore Mushroom Grow kit, and show you what to do, how they work, and what to expect when the conditions are optimal. Our kits are made in house at our mushroom farm in Christchuch, New Zealand. To get the kits growing, all you need to do it tear away the perforated area on the front, cut an 'X' in the inner bag to expose the mushroom mycelium. Then you need to lightly spray or mist with water a 2-4 times per day, depending on how dry your conditions are. After about 1 week the mushrooms will start growing, and after 2 crops you mushrooms should be about ready to harvest! We say to aim for 2 crops or flushes, and upwards of 1kg of mushrooms is obtainable. Sometimes even more! Growing mushrooms at home has never been easier! Grow them yourself, or give them, as a gift. You cannot see any substrate beneath it. </video> <video> I Am (almost) Growing Mushrooms In Antarctica | Heating a Mushroom Farm Description: It's been a cold October, as a cold wind blew directly off antarctica, across the southern and pacific oceans, and right over my farm in New Zealand. With the brief period of snow we had, I thought I should cover off exactly what I use to heat my farm! We use 4 separate heat pumps, and 8kw, 3.2kw, 5kw, and a commercial 11kw. These all control different parts of my mushroom farm, with the 11kw heating and cooling the air going through the fruiting rooms. Growing mushrooms means you generally need to get some heat in there, especially for the heat loving species. Description: Want to know how much money it costs to run a small scale mushroom farm? Lets dive in and take a look! In this video we will break down the expenses that goes into a growing mushroom farm. We established our farm in 2018, and it's been growing ever since. Now that the financial year is coming to an end, we can look at the cost involved for this years trading. Currently we are over $220k in expenses, but that's acceptable as we are growing. Description: When growing or farming mushrooms, you need a fan to take all the co2 and spore filled air out and away from the fruiting room. You need a suitable fan to do this, and in this video we look at the two types of fan I use on my farm. The main fans I use are centrifugal fans, which I use as main exhaust fans. These are an EC controlled fan, meaning they can be controlled with a 0-10v signal input. The second fan I use is an inline fan.
