On this channel, I share my experience and thoughts of taking my garage offline, disconnecting it from the power supply and run it solely from solar and batteries (for teaching and testing purposes). Paralleling and balancing LiFePO4 batteries. Description: Here is the capacity test of the Gobel Power EVE MB31 which I wanted to do for a long time. Because of some issues with the Gobel Power DIY kit and 2 potential faulty JK-BMS, the whole test was delayed again and again. Now I have paralleled the test battery with 314Ah+ with the battery shelf to charge it as quick as possible. Watching the big battery shelf and this much smaller test battery in parallel, we can learn a lot and see how the power distributes across these two different batteries. The top balancing of the test battery took pretty much the whole night because the JK-BMS we installed in the last video has only a 1A active balancer and this was the first real charge for the cells. I took them out of the box and installed them in the Gobel Power DIY Kit without any further treatment or testing. It is always very interesting to work with LiFePO4 cells and batteries, watch them charging in parallel and auto top-balance through the JK-BMS. The brand new JK-BMS firmware tested on Andy's workbench, made in JIKONG's laboratory. Finally, the long-anticipated firmware update for the V14 of the inverter BMS brings these first gen BMS up to the same level as the V15 BMS. From a functionality perspective, there is now no difference between these two versions anymore. Great! Bugfixes, new features and most importantly, a brand-new charging algorithm which takes now into account, what state the battery is in before setting the BMS to 100%SOC and entering float mode. I think, this is a pretty good solution and outcome now. Of course, as with any new version, it will not fit every single inverter out there nor will it work with all system designs. But this will now cover a lot, I mean a f* lot of systems and inverters and should work flawlessly. I have tested mine for 2 weeks now and the new algorithm works very well. I also discovered a bug about the two programmable relays on the BMS DRY1 and DRY2. At this point of time, I'm not sure where this bug is coming from as some BMS work, others don't. I show you this in this video in all details and please, if you can, leave your feedback below if this feature works for you and what version of BMS and hardware you have. Description: I know, most people buy the new EVE MB30 or MB31 these days. But have a look at the EVE LF280K from Yixiang. Prices are low, capacity is high. And I mean it, here is the test result! When discharged as a pack with 16s cells, the battery delivered over 15.5kWh (0.2C) and 300Ah+. That is really unmatched at the moment for very little money. The cells are of very high quality and consistency. Even at very low pack voltage of under 44V, the deviation was small, so all 16 cells seem to be very well matched. I also show you how I do a top balancing of this new battery pack, how I do a pack discharge test without wasting energy and what signs to look for while discharging to check on connections and busbars. Swapping GX devices again Description: As many of you already expected, I have swapped the Cerbo GX for the Raspi again. The Raspi belonged in the battery shelf from the beginning, so it is back now! The Pi got some really cool updates like a new transparent case with fan and an SD-Card extension cable (both linked below). This keeps both the Raspi and the SD cool(er). The swap created some chaos amongst all connected devices and there is some manual cleanu-up required after the actual swap. But, all good now! In a second step, I mounted the Cerbo GX back to the PowerWall 2.1 and connected the Lynx Power-In and Lunx Distributor directly together. We don't have the Lynx Shunt anymore, so this was a necessary step. Description: It is raining cats and dogs for days. Still 20A outside, so I'm happy with that. Because it is also not as hot, I'm continuing working on the walls and ceiling of the battery room. The walls are now closing the gap to the ceiling with some foam sealing. I also managed to add plasterboard around the roller door, yeah! Yes, the door still works😊 It is time to slap some mud on these walls and also tape all joints, so they don't crack (hopefully). For the Foilboard, I have some new holders designed and 3d-printed. They work actually really well and keep the boards securely in place. The previous solution with the magnets had some issues and was not optimal. Good day of work with some good progress. Description: I wanted to have a closer look at the new circuit breaker in the Yixiang DIY V2. When I revied this box, the breaker got my attention for working somehow 'upside down'. Now, looking at it again, it is clear that it trips both ways, from the ON as well as the OFF position when the test button is pushed. That was the confusing part, but the breaker works correctly. More concerning was the 'accidental' discovery of both front wheels bending in due to the weight of both battery boxes. As explained in the video, this is due to bad positioning of wheel mounts at the front. Yixiang will design a new wheelbase instead of mounting the wheels directly to the battery box. Description: It took me over a week to test all 16 cells of this battery to prepare for the consistency test. I usually don't check all the cells of a battery like this, but here, I was curious how these EVE LF280K perform and how consistent they discharge. The plan was to take the discharge curve of each individual cell and overlay them in the EB Tester Software. It was interesting to find out, that there was nothing new to learn about these cells. The result from the pack capacity test matched 100% the information we received from these 16 individual tests, just they took 1 week while the pack test took only 8h! Conclusion: unless you are after the capacity of each single cell for future record and comparison, there is actually no need to test all cells individually. Description: After finding the original JK-BMS wasn't working in the last episode, I decided to replace it with another BMS to finally conduct the capacity test of the battery. I swapped the faulty BMS with a V14 JK-BMS. This was not very exciting and pretty straight forward. I also had to change the balance wiring as per the Gobel Power manual. When I originally installed it, I only looked at the wiring labels, just to find out later, that the labels were wrong. Gobel has added a 'warning' in their manual about it but did not fix the actual labelling. Anyway, while changing the balance wires, I got zapped! Mildly, but when touching the battery and the metal case, I could feel something, a little tickle. The battery negative has a connection to the metal frame. Wait, what??? Not good! More investigation showed, that we may have another faulty BMS here. That's right, a second fault JK-BMS. Can you believe it?! Taking your house, shed or garage 'off-the-grid' is a very exciting thing to do. On this channel, I share my experience and thoughts of taking my garage offline, disconnecting it from the power supply and run it solely from solar and batteries (for teaching and testing purposes). We will do a lot of testing here on the channel, batteries, cells, BMS, electronics, solar charge controllers and even panels.

I will explain how everything works in a beginner friendly way. We will also do smaller side projects to break things down and make it easy to understand. So no previous knowledge or experience necessary to build your own solar-battery system.
