The musician Raju explained that he plays the tarpi at home in Ashvirasta Gunadajapara, a hamlet in Palghar, Maharashtra during Dussehra and Navratri, ,and other festivals. In addition to its spiritual elements, the festival is also a popular space for dance performances, magic tricks and acrobatic feats. </video> <video> Amjad Gond sings qawwali Description: Amjad Murad Gond is an Adivasi singing qawwali at the dargah of Hazrat Pir Qamar Ali Durvesh in Maharashtra’s Khed Shivapur near Pune. Like his grandfather, his abba too wandered around villages selling herbs or dates. He was fond of music. “Phir woh qawwali ki lane mein ghus gaye [he found the path of Qawwali]. I always followed my father wherever he went. Slowly he started singing at programmes. And watching him, I too learned the art,” he says. The Muslim Gond community has Hindu, Muslim or Christian names. “We use what we like. We have no religion. We do not believe in caste.
