I'm REALLY happy with how it came out considering everything, it's 9" x 11". You can see some of the stages in this painting (along with me testing putting down painting medium on the canvas to help the water-soluble oils glide better). You can see the difference between the dry brush look when I realized I'd forgotten to do that on one cheek, and a swipe of colour on the other once the medium base was applied on the canvas, it's a much smoother colour application. Thanks to @timpackerfinearts for that tip about the medium, that made a massive difference. And thanks to @ajalper for a great class on alla prima oil portrait painting on @domestika that helped guide me through the process as it had been so long since I had done a portrait. Obviously I went far less naturalistic with the tones in the face than A.J. teaches, but it was interesting seeing my style for portraits and painting in general basically pick right back up where it left off so long ago.
