Because of popular request, I decided to share this pendant design as a tutorial for everyone to enjoy! In our Membership Livestream for October, we made another couple of versions of this pendant but now you have a more simple version too! I don't show how to attached an add-on design wire in this one but I love the single elegant big wire. It's a very secure frame provided you have all the four points of your stone covered. It's elegant simplicity in a one wire technique! I take you step by step through how to create this beauty and after you get the technique down, it's quite quick to make these! Great for ovals, teardrop cabochon, round cabochon as well as irregular ovals and rounds. I am using 14 inches of 16 gauge, round, soft Copper wire. There is 1 inch of waste wire at the end, so you might give yourself a coupe of extra inches the first time, just for comfort space. My cabochon is 26mm long x 18mm wide, which is 1 inch long x 3/4 inch wide and about 4mm thick. Tools and materials are listed in the first 10 seconds of the video also. Have fun! The technique can be done also on larger stones for a pendant of similar look, certainly I'd add a design wire if doing this on a larger stone or perhaps add weaving and some bead balls for another wonderful look! This design is great for round stones, ovals as well as teardrop shapes as the frame will fit all of them. I used 12mm round colored quartz with copper wires but you can certainly elevate these into precious metals and natural gemstones for another great line of earrings! I decided midway to weave, so some of my weaving measurements are spoken short but I documented where you should cut longer. The Tools and Materials are listed in the first view seconds, in there, I also show for more 28 gauge weaving wire, the other measures are correct. In livestream, we will do the unweaved version of this pendant with hammering and layering techniques so you'll have more than one way to do this wrap. This is a ONE wire technique, using large 16 gauge, half round wire to create this cute frame and capture this tiny Labradorite oval cabochon. This is a great technique for using larger half round wire, while perhaps a bit challenging, I think it's worth a go! Try this first in Copper wire if you've not used larger half round before. This is a wonderful one wire mini pendant technique, but it's a bit harder than it might look at first. NOTE: It has come to my attention that I should note, if you are using a stone larger than the one I'm showing in this video, please consider to add a couple of inches or more (depending on how large your stone is), so that you can complete the design. The cab in this video is 12mm height x 9mm wide x 5mm depth. In this wire wrapping technique, you will learn how to create, what I call my Processus pendant frame. It's a continuous, one wire, flow to create both the frame structure and the design elements. I hope you have fun! Please leave a comment and let me know what you think of this style. I'm using 15 inches of 16 gauge half round, half hard, sterling silver wire. Because the wire is larger, you can also use dead soft wire. You can also use 18g half round and a slightly smaller stone. The cab is a sweet little Labradorite 12mm height x 9mm wide x 5mm depth. Half round wire (for the newbie) is flat on one side and has a dome on the other side. Meaning this wire has a 'direction' that it needs to face all the time while you're building this pendant. Half round wire is also a bit hard to bend on it's edge. It tends to want to turn on you during the curve, so sometimes, you need to keep it flat and facing the right direction. NOTE: Until your wire passes your stone a few times, the stone will be very loose while working, so be sure to protect it and work over a pad and a well lit surface. Sighs... not too bad but I had to hunt for another stone that would fit my already beautiful part 1 setting! So I did and found this incredible Sornoa Sunrise cabochon from my Sidewinder Minerals collection. You'll see it part way through part 2 which is still uploading today! Probably more like tonight by the time she's all done but I do hope you love the frame and the wrap! It's a great frame style for many reasons, one of which is that the stone lock in, is one of the last things we do or can be one of the last things we do. This allows for you to sand, patina, polish and do whatever finishing to the frame wires as you want before you commit the stone to the frame. You will see this on the build in Part 2... and a good thing too as I broke the stone but was able to easily find another to fit the frame rather than waste the work. Okay then, I'm back to editing!
