Unfortunately, they are getting really good at their job, and that's stealing our money. Scammers are pretending to be someone from the Sheriff's Department and making claims you have a warrant because you missed jury duty. They use fear to force you to stay on the phone and demand wire transactions of money and gift cards to pay off your alleged warrants. These are traps! Don't fall victim to these scams. We will NEVER ask for money or gift cards. Hang up the phone and do your research. </video> <video> Memorial of Deputy Dan McCartney Description: Today marks 7 years since the passing of Deputy Daniel McCartney, who was shot and killed while responding to an armed home invasion robbery in the Frederickson area. Deputy McCartney courageously ran after the armed suspects as they fled from the victims’ home through the darkness into a vacant property. During an exchange of gunfire with the suspects, Deputy McCartney was struck once and passed away a short time later. One of the suspects died at the scene, and another was taken into custody by our deputies following hours of containment and a manhunt. The two other suspects who aided in the planning and execution of the home invasion robbery would later be arrested by our detectives. Dan McCartney was 34 years old and had served with our department for three years after serving for six years with the Hoquiam Police Department. Dan was a proud veteran of the US Navy, strong in his faith, and most importantly a loving husband to his wife Cierra and father to their three young sons Tate, Traxton, and Tytus. Dan’s incredible bravery and sacrifice on that terrible night seven years ago will never be forgotten. Honor Dan by continuing to carry out the mission and take a moment to remember Dan and his family today. May we find both peace and strength in the remembrance of these, our own. Deputy Dan McCartney, #484 – deputy sheriff, husband, father, friend – gone but never forgotten. </video> <video> K9 Coda Deployment Description: K9 Coda is one of our newest dogs, but he's not new to catching bad guys. K9 Coda gets a great catch when he is deployed from his handler's vehicle. Great job K9 Coda and his handler! </video> <video> Homicide Investigation 12 30 24 Description: On December 30th, 2024, at 4:02pm, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting that occurred at the 2200 block of 165th St. E. The caller stated a male victim had been shot and a male suspect had fled the scene. When deputies arrived, they immediately attempted life saving measures, but the adult male was pronounced deceased. A description of the suspect was provided to police and a short time later, the adult male suspect was taken peacefully into custody at another location. Currently, detectives are on scene and are at the early stages of investigation. It is unknown what led up to this shooting or what the relationship was between the two. More information will be provided as it comes available. </video> <video> RIDE ALONG with Deputy Connor Hogan Description: We are back again in Parkland on day shift to ride with Deputy Hogan. Visit our profile to see our other Ride Along and body camera videos or checkout our YouTube page to skip the posts and just watch videos! </video> <video> Hammer Wielding Suspect Description: On 12/13/2024 at approximately 0235 hours, one of our deputies was on routine patrol in the Fred Meyer parking lot at 176th and Meridian when he noticed an agitated individual that was yelling and harassing Fred Meyer employees. An employee reported he was looking into vehicles while she was in her vehicle, and she was fearful he was going to hurt her. The manager wanted him removed from the premises. When the deputy attempted contact, it turned into an unexpected standoff. The 33-year-old male had multiple felony warrants, which would explain why he did not want to go to jail. Great job to these deputies for the tremendous amount of patients they had while working through the safest plan of action to get this man into custody. </video> <video> Over The Weekend, January 13, 2025 Description: Residential Burglary On 01/11/2025, at approximately 2110 hours, deputies were dispatched to a residential burglary at the 700 block of 114th St S. The victim reported an unknown male walked through her front door and pushed her to the ground, breaking a table and glass vase. A friend who was there at the home with the victim, chased the suspect away. Shortly later, the male suspect was located down the road and arrested for Burglary in the First Degree. He was later transported to the Pierce County Jail. A follow-up with the victim indicated the victim sustained a fracture and torn ligament from being pushed to the ground. Vandalism to Business On 1/12/2025 at approximately 1434 hours, deputies were dispatched to a vandalism at AMPM located at 10108 194th St E. The reporting party stated that a male had walked up to the business and threw a rock at the window of the business. The reporting party stated that the male was wearing a black sweater with red and black basketball shorts. The window would cost approximately $2,000 to repair. The male was located in the area shortly afterwards and booked into the Pierce County Jail for Malicious Mischief 2nd Degree. Hit and Run Collision – Canyon Rd. E On 1/12/2025 at approximately 2048 hours, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of 176th St E and Canyon Rd E to investigate a report of a non-injury hit and run collision. The victim of the hit and run stated the other vehicle had ran a red light, then drove down the road and abandoned their damaged vehicle shortly afterwards and climbed into the passenger side of a red truck. A suspect is being investigated in this case. </video> <video> Saved by Morse Code Description: On December 18th at 2:05pm our deputies were called to conduct a welfare check on a man that had not been heard from in four days. When deputies arrived, they knew something was wrong and got creative using a form of morse code to communicate with the man inside. It was not an easy task getting into the house with all the windows and doors having security bars on them. Deputies worked quickly to get inside and discovered the male on the ground in the front living room. Fire was able to get the man to a local hospital. The man told deputies he had been on the ground for four days waiting for someone to find him. Outstanding work to all involved.
