Description: I've known of Sami Wehbe (Instagram: @samiwehbee) since my days at #GeorgetownUniversity in #Qatar. When I graduated and joined the world of PR, he did too, and later, his path and mine frequently intersected, but never quite as direct colleagues. However, I have keenly watched his growth as a professional, and was always, always impressed, and this is why his promotion to #PR Account Manager last year in July 2021 came as no surprise (long overdue, if you ask me, considering his good reputation in our local industry and watching his leadership skills on public display). Here's what Sami thinks being a PR Account Manager is all about, in his own words: “What differentiates an account manager from an account executive is the ability to see things from a bigger picture perspective - away from short-term tactics and towards long-term strategic communication objectives. "One thing I learned from a great mentor in the industry, which really changed the way I approach client requests is asking myself (and the client) what their objective is with this particular piece of writing and does it fit into their overall greater organizational communication strategic objectives. If yes, I proceed with the request; if no, then I make a recommendation that would be more effective with a larger impact that falls in line with their overarching communication strategy. "For example: Client: ‘We'd like a press release on this MoU signing.’ Consultant: ‘I recommend writing a joint op-ed with the partner entity on your areas of cooperation and why you have decided to partner with them, tie it to relevant global events/trends and mention the MoU there instead, as it will have a greater media impact and position you both as leaders in the field. However, all media tours - in-person or virtual - are a series of face-to-face meetings between individuals, such as company executives and political candidates, and news media outlets that allow greater insight into the workplace of the interviewee, their staff, their culture, their building, their offices, their stakeholders, their customers, etc.. They are designed to build relationships with news media and generate news coverage for company or campaign activities.
