Turner was arrested and a trial followed. On June 2, 2016 he was found guilty on three felony counts: 1. Assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated or unconscious person. 2. Sexual penetration of an intoxicated person 3. Sexual penetration of an unconscious person. However, to the shock and dismay of the victim and the general population, Brock Turner received only six months in a county jail with probation. The judge did not want to punish Turner too harshly in light of the fact that he is a champion swimmer and has a "bright future ahead of him". The statement read in court by his victim has ignited a fire across the world. People are outraged at the lenient sentence he received.
