Find out more on our website www.rct.uk <video> Repairing a clock for royal display at Windsor Castle Description: Watch our film to discover how our horologists look after the clock collection at Windsor Castle. This mantelpiece clock, crafted by Benjamin Vulliamy for George IV in 1787, features marble and Derby biscuit porcelain. Our horologists aim to service every clock in the collection every 7-10 years, and after a decade of operation, this one was due a service. Upon inspection, it showed slight wear and needed custom bushes. The simple design allowed for a swift repair process, taking about a week. The clock is now back on display in the State Bedchamber at Windsor Castle. </video> <video> Take a look in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle Description: The Green Drawing Room is one of the Semi-State Rooms at Windsor Castle. The Semi-State Rooms are the private apartments created for George IV. They feature interiors decorated by Morel & Seddon, with a selection of furnishings and fittings taken from Carlton House, George IV's former London residence. The rooms are among the most richly decorated interiors in the Castle and were used by Queen Elizabeth II for official entertaining. George IV had a love of fine objects and a taste for the theatrical. With his architect, Sir Jeffry Wyatville, he completely remodelled the Castle’s exterior during the 1820s, giving it the romantic and picturesque appearance seen today. </video> <video> Slow Looking: Artemisia Gentileschi Description: Join us for the latest in our Slow Looking series, in collaboration with the Limina Collective. The practice of Slow Looking provides a unique opportunity for us to explore an artwork through the lens of mindfulness. Inspired by our current, special display of artwork by Artemisia Gentileschi at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, this event will focus on the self-portrait in which the artist depicts herself as the Allegory of Painting and which is widely considered one of her greatest works. </video> <video> Christmas at Windsor Castle Description: Step into Christmas and 1,000 years of royal history at Windsor Castle. This festive period, see the State Apartments decorated with magnificent Christmas displays. The highlight of this year's decorations include a 20-foot-high Nordmann Fir tree in St George's Hall, taken from Windsor Great Park and dressed with thousands of twinkling lights. Another sparkling Christmas tree will be found in the Crimson Drawing Room – one of the most elaborate Semi-State Rooms, which were created as private apartments for George IV. The rooms are still used today by members of the Royal Family, and are open to visitors over the winter months. </video> <video> A doll's eye view of Queen Mary's Dolls' House Description: Queen Mary's Dolls' House is the largest and most famous dolls' house in the world. Queen Mary was consort to King George V, and these albums detail some of her official engagements and family gatherings over a 70-year period in history. The albums are currently undergoing conservation treatment to clean and repair the paper, bindings and photographs, and in some instances be rebound to make the albums safer to handle, allowing them to be digitised, researched, and displayed within the Royal Collection for future generations. </video> <video> How to create a tiny Christmas tree for Queen Mary's Dolls' House Description: For the first time, specially made Christmas decorations have been added to the tiny rooms in Queen Mary's Dolls' House, a 1:12 scale replica of an Edwardian residence gifted from the nation to Queen Mary, consort of King George V. The new decorations, which include a miniature Christmas tree in the Hall and a garland decorating the staircase, will be the final stage in the year-long celebrations marking the centenary of the Dolls' House. </video> <video> Queen Victoria's brooch of Princess Vicky : A Christmas present from Prince Albert Description: Mounted in gold, this cutout enamel miniature depicts Queen Victoria’s first child, Princess Victoria, clasping a string of pearls, from which hangs a real diamond and ruby crucifix. She has jewelled wings mounted at the shoulders. Inspired by a cherub in a painting by Raphael, Prince Albert designed the piece himself as a Christmas present for the queen. In this event, Karly Allen from the Limina Collective will lead us through a series of relaxing and reflective exercises including meditation, guided looking and journaling. Karly will also be joined by our exhibition curator, Lauren Porter, who will share some information on the biography of Polidoro, one of the lesser-known artists showcased in this exhibition, as well as the medium and techniques he used to create this striking portrait. </video> <video> Robert Burns in the Royal Collection Description: In the week of Burns Night, join us for this celebration of Scotland's national poet, focusing on the 'Tam O'Shanter' chair on display in the Great Gallery, at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. On 9 March 1566, her husband Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley broke into her private apartments and stabbed Rizzio many times with daggers and swords. Explore the intricate details, advanced technology, and historical significance of this remarkable artefact. Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales was the eldest son of James I and VI and Anne of Denmark, who tragically died of typhoid fever at the age of 18. The armour is from the royal workshop at Greenwich and was made in about 1608 under the workshop of the master craftsman Jacob Halder. It is one of the finest and most complete Greenwich armours to survive. </video>
