Helps the channel out too :) Anyway… Lava tiles are something every DM tends to want at some point, but the existing options are very limited. Either you paint the lava and it ends up being quite dull, with limited 'glow' and usually limited modularity, or you buy a nice but very highly priced dwarven forge set for £500+. Which is unappealing for other reasons…and only really fits their tiles - which are equally expensive. So, I designed my own! These tiles can be used to make lava flows and rivers or wide open volcanic lakes, that blend seamlessly with my existing volcanic builds and can even be combined with other build, layering the tiles on top. The really nice thing is you can absolutely make this tile design a LOT cheaper even than this by painting the tiles instead - you lose the glow, but you do keep all the modularity. In this tutorial my aim is to share the techniques and methods I use to make the bases on my miniatures blend with the terrain, but still look incredible on close inspection, as well as some other techniques I use to make the bases themselves far better for playing with! I play D&D, but whether you do 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, Age of Sigmar, Star Wars Legion or one of the dozens of other games out there - basing is the quickest, easiest way to make any mini look awesome. Description: Tents Will Get Used. In D&D, it's pretty much that simple. Players will camp, pitch tents, and sooner or later, get ambushed or attacked - it's so common it's practically a trope! But more than this, sooner or later, players often end up infiltrating an enemy camp for one reason or another. Tents are such a universally useful thing to have on hand, but I've never been happy with the methods often used, and certainly not with plastic or printed tents - to me they just…don't look right. So, I did my usual and tried out some new materials and methods to get a realistic, but still playable result! I'm pretty happy with where this military campsite ended up, it's quick, cheap, realistic, playable, surprisingly durable and very flexible. Description: Modular D&D terrain is insanely useful, and is one of the first ways a lot of people get started in crafting. The realistic look you can achieve with these kinds of tiles, as opposed to flat, shiny printed battlemats is part of what really sold me on making my own terrain! Battlemats are ok as a starter, but they never inspired me, and always felt (to me!) like it was boiling a cool D&D scene down to a very basic level 😕 They just didn't have enough texture, height and detail. Making my own means I can control how big the tiles are, where they come apart, what accessories I can add and where as well as how easy it is to add details like dirt, puddles and so on. This is the sort of thing where its actually harder to do it with a product you buy, because they were designed with a specific system in mind, and if you don't like that system or only want one part of it....tough. You get the same as everyone else.
