Back in 2017, we made a big leap and bought Aquarius - an Amel Super Maramu 2000. Despite our limited sailing experience, we set off on an epic journey Around The World! Fast forward 7 years, and we've covered over 36,000 nautical miles, visited 50 countries, and unfortunately, dealt with the challenge of 2 broken masts—right in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, no less, on our final stretch to complete our Circumnavigation! At present, Aquarius sits patiently in a boatyard, masts absent, as we navigate through the insurance & repair (?) process. It all went fairly well despite the unusual wind direction until we noticed that one of our main mast shrouds seemed quite loose. We just got our new rigging as we remasted Aquarius, but now we have sailed for nearly 1000 nautical miles so maybe it's time to tune the rig or something is going wrong? Not again!!! Ep. 191 Description: Re-Masting of Aquarius Part 2. Ken finishes the works at Power Boats in Trinidad. We were able to complete the Re-Masting in less than two months from the day we hauled out at Power Boats, to the day we set sail to the VIBE Boat Show in St Thomas. In this time we hauled out, bought FriendshipII, took the masts, sold FriendshipII, and re-masted Aquarius. We had to replace almost everything on the masts from FriendshipII; Lines, lights, anemometers, lightning protection, antennas and wires... All replaced!. To add to the replacement of the masts, all the engine, fiberglass, and metal work, and much of the electronics replaced due to obsolescence. This was a mission that could have gone either way. But, somehow Ken assembled a great team that put Aquarius back together for the party at the VIBE BOAT SHOW in St Thomas. Many people at Power Boats were amazed that Aquarius set sail, on time! Hey there! We're Ken and Zivile, also known as Isabelle, adventurers, sailors, and YouTubers.
Back in 2017, we made a big leap and bought Aquarius - an Amel Super Maramu 2000. Despite our limited sailing experience, we set off on an epic journey Around The World! Fast forward 7 years, and we've covered over 36,000 nautical miles, visited 50 countries, and unfortunately, dealt with the challenge of 2 broken masts—right in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, no less, on our final stretch to complete our Circumnavigation!
At present, Aquarius sits patiently in a boatyard, masts absent, as we navigate through the insurance & repair (?) process.
Once everything is sorted, we'll be transparent about what happened—when and how we lost the mast, the underlying cause, and all the details.
