In estimates I asked Treasury why they allow foreign investors tax breaks through tax treaties that aren’t available to Australian businesses. This is a reverse tariff as Australian Businesses have to charge a higher price to make the same profit as the foreign investor. As a result people will buy the cheaper foreign made product sending the Australian business broke. Same for investment income. If an Australian investor wanted to earn 7% interest, assuming a 30 cent tax rate they would have to charge 10% to earn 7% after tax. Because the Tax Act gives an explicit tax exemption to foreign banks (128F 1936 ITAA Act) on interest earned they only have to charge 7%. As a result when Australian companies raise debt they go offshore because they can get cheaper rates of interest than here in Australia. This is why there is no corporate bond market in Australia. People First is the only political party that understands capital markets including the way financial instruments are taxed and the impact it has on Australia’s sovereignty. According to Cornwall Insight’s NEM Benchmark Power Curve, the total installed capacity for these technologies is expected to rise from 52GW in 2025 to 208 GW by 2043, a 300% increase. The increase will be led by solar, including rooftop PV, which is expected to add an impressive 78GW over the next two decades, with wind and storage forecast to increase by 39GW and 40GW1 respectively. The rise in installed capacity will be driven by federal and state government policies. This includes the Capacity Investment Scheme, the national renewables auction designed to decrease risk for investors and encourage investment. Additionally statewide auctions and policy incentives included in the Victorian Renewable Energy Target, the New South Wales Electricity Roadmap and the Queensland Renewable Energy Target are expected to encourage investment in renewables.” •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• In estimates I asked the Energy department how on earth the Government thinks they can install the enormous amount of renewables needed to reach net zero and do it more cheaply than coal. As usual they refer to the misleading CSIRO modelling which uses flawed assumptions. Of course the critical factor in all of this are the enormous subsidies all Australian governments are handing out to renewable companies, mostly foreign owned while at the same time closing down Australian owned and operated coal companies thus ensuring even more money goes offshore. It is unbelievable that both major parties continue to support net zero and renewables. They should have been getting as many opinions as possible to determine the cause of so many reported deaths. They had an obligation to seek a second opinion given their inherent conflict of interest by approving the vaccine. The panic on their faces shows they know it as well. The cost of these pensions as modelled by the Finance Department is $335 billion for 165,000 retired bureaucrats. (I am not referring to the military pension.) This works out at $2 million per bureaucrat. There are 40,000 who receive over $75,000 at a cost of $137 billion or almost $3.5 million each despite these people being very highly paid throughout their careers. The fact that both major parties have sat on their hands about this shows they are in bed with the Canberra bureaucracy. Don’t believe them when they say they care about hard working Australians. The Senate RRAT inquiry into the closure of bank branches handed down its report last May. Labor is still stalling on responding to the report which called for a public bank that would keep branches open and ensure that people could access all banking services including access to cash. People First is the only party calling for a proper public bank (not postal bank which doesn’t offer all banking services) that will keep branches open, provide cash services and also offer fixed home loans with a duration of up to 25 years. Because private banks rely on foreign debt they cannot access bonds with a duration of longer than five years. This means they can’t lend at a fixed rate for longer than five years. The risk of fluctuating interest rates then falls onto hard working Australians who are constantly being bombarded with the volatile decisions of the RBA. Albanese and Labor don’t want a public bank because their union mates own a large share of the private banks through the industry funds. That is why he is kicking the can down the road on responding to the banking inquiry. Ampol has previously landed grants from both the NSW state government and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency to begin its rollout of EV fast charging stations under the AMPCharge brand. However, it fell well short of its target of reaching more than 180 charging bays by the end of 2023, with just 82 charging bays installed across 36 sites. In the company’s 2023 annual report, it blamed delays with grid connections and landowners.” •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• In Senate Estimates the Labor Party is trying to argue that loans to the private sector for renewable energy are not subsidies. This is double speak as eventually most of these loans will never be repaid for the simple reason electric vehicle charging stations aren’t economical. At $500,000 for each charging station, plus the energy and land required for each one, the price charged by Ampol to recover costs would be so expensive as to render the charging stations uneconomical. The idea they can roll out enough charging stations to service an entire nation the size of Australia is absurd. If charging stations were economical the private banks would have lent the money. It’s just another example of how renewables are being propped up by taxpayer funded subsides. People First will abolish all government subsidies for renewables and use the savings to cut your income tax.
