Scene 2: Gathering Information Elderly Person: Oh no, that sounds serious. What should I do? Scammer: No need to worry, Mrs. Johnson. We only need to verify your account details. Could you please confirm your account number and the last four digits of your Social Security number? Elderly Person: Um, I’m not sure if I should… Scammer: I understand your concern, Mrs. Johnson. But, we need this information to prevent any potential fraud. I assure you, it's very urgent. I probably shouldn’t be telling you this, but we’ve had a suspected hacker get into our banking system. As a result, we have been forced to contact all of our customers to protect their accounts. Narration Point 3: Protecting Personal Information Warning: Never share your personal or financial information over the phone unless you are certain of the caller's identity. Legitimate banks or companies will never ask for sensitive information this way. Hang up and call your bank or brokerage directly using a verified phone number. You can find a verified phone number on your bank statement. Scene 3: Increasing Pressure Elderly Person: I suppose, but I’m really not comfortable with this. Scammer: Mrs. Johnson, your funds are at risk. If we don’t act now, I am afraid that you could lose everything in your account. Please, I just need your account number and the last four digits of your Social Security number to stop the fraud from occurring. Elderly Person: This sounds really urgent… Well, I certainly don’t want to lose all my money. Narration Point 4: Handling Pressure Tactics Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressure you into making quick decisions. They want to create a state of panic. If you feel rushed or pressured, take a step back. It's always better to be safe than sorry. If you feel pressured, ask them to call you back. Then, you can call a family member or neighbor to report the call immediately. Scene 4: Seeking Help Elderly Person: You know what, I’m going to call my bank directly to confirm this. I’ll call you back if I need to. Scammer: Mrs. Johnson, if you hang up now, I am afraid we won’t be able to stop the fraud in time. These video lessons are for anyone trying to improve their English. My goal is to help viewers speak more natural and fluent English by learning practical expressions and conversations.

My experience: I have taught English as a foreign language for more than 25 years. I am an associate professor of applied linguistics at a women's university in Japan. With my academic background, I have presented at many international conferences on language learning. It is my passion and something I continue to enjoy.

My accent is American. I was born and raised near Boston, Massachusetts, but also lived in California for 10 years.

Languages Studied: My second language is Japanese which I can also read (not so easy because there are about 2,000 Chinese characters to learn). In my school days, I studied Spanish and later in graduate school I learned some Chinese.

Through YouTube, I believe we can all learn together.
