The standard, traditional doctors are still very much necessary, but people are also finding their way to alternative methods of healing. And why are they doing this? Because the level of consciousness in people is higher. They realize that just because they went to a certain doctor in the past to heal their troubles—the troubles of the present and the future of a sort—that it's going to take a lot of different sor...kinds of doctors to address and to heal them. But remember that the main healing comes not from any out...outer source. Any true, humble doctor knows that healing does not come through the pills he dispenses or any sort of alternative treatment through an herb or anything else. It comes through the divine power—through the power of God in some way getting through to one individual to help bring about a healing. And as a member of ECKANKAR or even as a member of any church, you will realize and learn that the path to God is not one of a group. You are on this path to God yourself. You may be in a member of a group that is very large, very small, or you may go all by yourself. But you are on this journey to God. And the only thing important on this journey is you and God. And once you've established the correct relationship between yourself and God, then you're able to go back out into the world and serve all God's creatures. You will serve with love, kindness, compassion, and understanding. Because you've walked in those moccasins before. You've been there. You can help others by listening. Because you've been there. And there are others who can help you. Because they've been where you are now. And all the help that comes to us is from the Holy Spirit, whether it comes in a dream or whether it comes through the help of a friend or the help of a doctor. The trick is the discrimination that you need to tell what's good for you and what's not good for you. And this comes by listening to your heart. In other words, to your own Inner Master. Deborah, from New York, tells of meeting “Bill,” a bioengineering professor, and “Liz,” his eleven-year-old daughter. Both had sleep disorders. Bill had trouble getting to sleep at night, and when he did sleep, he slept poorly. He was always on edge. Liz, his daughter, was a sleepwalker. Here you’ve got a dad and daughter, both having problems with sleep. So Deborah told him about singing "HU." And when he got home, he told his daughter how to sing "HU" to calm things down. Now, Bill’s belief system had been that when you die, that’s the end of it. You’re gone like a puff of smoke. Poof! The life you lived here has no more significance than a puff of smoke. And this had always scared him. He thought, "There’s got to be more than this." But worse, he felt he was passing on this legacy of fear to his daughter, and that’s why she was sleepwalking. One day, Bill mentioned his sore neck to Deborah. She asked him, “Has it ever occurred to you that it could be from a past life?” A lot of us have had some problems with the powers that be in the past. And then in this lifetime, we suffer neck pains and the like and wonder, "Where is that from?" Well, it could be from hanging around the wrong places, like trees and scaffolds. Or sometimes, from the executioner’s blade—all those cheery things. Somehow we crossed the powers that be, and then in this lifetime we say, “Oh, my neck hurts.” Bill went home and told Liz, even though he thought, "Boy, this’ll really scare her." Well, Liz seemed delighted. For some reason, “past life” rang a bell inside her like she knew it was true. There was something to this. So they did what Deborah said: “Do the technique of singing "HU" when you’re trying to go to sleep. Just imagine an open door, and walk through it.” It was a good beginning, because now Bill could at least fall asleep. Then in the middle of the night he’d wake up, wide awake as ever. That bothered him, except there was one benefit that hadn’t been there before: If something had been puzzling him, he now saw the answer to it. This was something that hadn’t happened before. So it was a good beginning, but he still has a ways to go. His daughter did this HU technique too. As she sang "HU" and walked through the open door, she began having these wonderful dreams. She slept completely through the night sometimes. The first time this happened, Bill sent an email to Deborah, saying, “It works. She’s having really good dreams.” Then Liz had a dream where she was snowboarding. She was going down a hill on a board, and she said it was so real. It was more real than things out here, and it was just a lot of fun! Deborah said, “If you’d like to try to repeat the experience tonight, you can do that again, but this time, take my dog with you. Invite my dog to go along.” Next morning, Deborah got another email from Bill. He said, “Liz did just as you said. She invited your dog, and everything in that Soul Travel experience was exactly the same, except your dog was running down the hill with her.” Deborah had explained to Bill that Soul Travel is you living and being aware in full consciousness at a finer level of existence than you already are at. So this was quite an experience for both father and daughter, and the lessons were good too. They learned to play the “HU: A Love Song to God” CD. They said, “Hmm, that’s worth it.” And then they chant "HU" every night. </video> <video> The Secrets of Health and Harmony Description: This clip is from Harold Klemp’s 2018 talk “A Few Good Lessons.” For more stories of inspiration, or for information on other spiritual topics, please visit http://www.Eckankar.org. This story is about “Matthew” from Ghana, and how he learned the secrets of health and harmony. For two days, Matthew had been bedridden with malaria, and he took medications to help him get through this. Then he tried a healing technique. He thought, "Being an ECKist, I’m going to try something." So he envisioned, or imagined, some of the ECK Masters helping him heal the rest of the way. While he was doing this, a strange thing happened. Suddenly it wasn’t his imagination anymore. Three ECK Masters—Kata Daki, Rebazar Tarzs, and Lai Tsi—were there in person, and they began a healing process. After this had gone on a little bit, Kata Daki, the female ECK Master, looked at the other two and asked, “Do you think he can be told the secrets of the healing process and longevity?” Well, they went back and forth on it, talking it over, weighing the pro and cons: Was it a good idea to tell Matthew about some of these things that are generally not known? Finally they agreed. “Yes, we’ll tell him.” They started to explain. This was the first lesson: Health is harmony. To maintain harmony, one must guard the three entrances—the mouth, the ears, and the eyes. The ECK Masters advised Matthew to check what entered the mouth and what came out of it. He was also to watch closely what his ears heard and how he processed this information. Finally, he was to observe carefully what his eyes saw and how that affected his emotions. The Masters’ second lesson was about longevity. They said health is self-discipline. They said that the ECK Masters who’d been granted longevity, as these three have, worked at it all the time. They had to work at it to maintain harmony in their being. And the way one maintained good health and stayed in harmony with the ECK, they said, was to continually practice the Spiritual Exercises of ECK, in one way or another. There are a number of different ways to practice them so that, in the end, you become the HU itself. In our society today, parents forget to discipline their children because they do not understand divine love. Divine love recognizes the rule that you do not invade another person’s property without their permission. On a ball field there are rules and boundary lines. If you’re playing a game of softball or baseball in a field where nothing is marked—the batter’s box isn’t marked, the pitcher’s mound isn’t marked, first base, second, third base isn’t marked—you can still do OK. You can estimate the distance to first base and say, “We’ll use that tree as a boundary.” But you’re still using a boundary. If the ball falls fair and nobody catches it, you have a chance to go to a base, to advance. The same thing happens spiritually. If you follow the spiritual law, if you hit within bounds, you advance. But what if you hit a pop-up, a blooper, and someone catches it—meaning someone catches a blooper of yours at work? Maybe you have a bad reaction to it. Instead of saying, “Oh, thank you for showing me that; I’ll try to do better,” you carry a grudge. You say, “What right has that person to come in here and tell me that? They make mistakes too.” Or what if you hit a ball completely out of bounds and then you try to run around the bases anyway? You’re not going to be playing the game right, and nobody will play with you. You’re going to find out that you’re all by yourself. You’re one of those loners in society. A lot of parents try to teach their children how to grow up without putting boundary lines down on the ground. Basketball courts have lines. Football fields have lines. Highways have lines. Everything has lines. But some people will not draw lines with their children. They wonder, "Why is the crime rate so high? Why are drugs rampant in our society?". . . Some parents don’t understand this; they’re all full of gushy love, which they mistake for divine love. But it’s without boundaries. Their children grow up not knowing boundaries, not knowing where other people’s freedom starts, where other people’s property begins. You don’t go there unless you have their permission. That’s how it works. Many people today don’t understand that, because they don’t understand the spiritual law. You cannot go into another person’s space without that person’s permission. You may say, “My space is the whole world.” Not so fast! Your freedom ends where another person’s begins. This is hard to deal with. The more crowded earth becomes, the more crowded a country becomes, the more crowded a workplace becomes, or the more crowded a cabin becomes, the more likely it is that there will be hard feelings. Suddenly the freedom or space of one person gets dangerously close to the private space of another person. People need people. We are here to work these things out. It’s part of this world; it’s part of the spiritual life. There is no victim. There’s a lot of victim consciousness, but there is no victim. Everyone earns what he gets. Like it or not, that is the Law of Love. The Law of Love helps soften the hardened heart. Often there’s no harder heart than that of a victim to some facet of life. It’s hard like a walnut shell. And how do you get through? Divine Spirit will. . . How does love show up? The Window of Heaven—the ECK initiation. A woman from Australia, whose first connection with ECK was through the dream state, recently wrote to request information about the ECK teachings. In her letter she explained how her introduction to the teachings came about... Another person commented to me, “There must be as many different ways to come to Eckankar as there are individuals in ECK.” This is true: ECK is an individual path made just for you. Although the outer teachings cannot tailor the spiritual clothing closely enough to fit each person individually, they do provide a gateway, a stepping-stone into the other worlds. This puts you in more direct contact with the source of love, where each of you can get the insights and wisdom you need at that particular moment in your life. The true ECK teachings fit each individual, because the help you find on the spiritual planes is infinite. On the way home to God, people encounter a lot of lessons. Collectively these lessons comprise the experience of life.“Bella” told about a novel experience that gave her a bit of knowledge she could never have imagined existed. But it gave her a lot of comfort and a feeling of safety. She was in a remote cabin in Idaho, and she was there to rest. She had been at a recovery camp for people with serious illness. Now she was seated in this cabin, doing a Spiritual Exercise of ECK, when a sudden noise startled her. She jumped, opened her eyes, and looked. There was a bear right outside the window. Bella fiddled with her cell phone, trying to switch it to camera mode. There was just a screen on the window, and the house smells were wafting out. But the bear looked it all over and decided he’d settle for the garbage can. So he took the garbage can and carried it behind the woodshed. Bella wondered, “My bike’s parked back there. Now how am I going to get out of here?" She was able to get a signal on her cell phone and got ahold of her husband. He said, “I used to go camping in Yellowstone Park, and there were a lot of bears there. I just wore a bunch of bells. That way they could hear me coming. I was never bothered. I could hear them in the woods, but they never bothered me, because they could hear I was coming.” Bella then remembered she had packed costumes to take to the recovery camp. She’d done a quick job of packing, and when she came to a bag of bells, she just tossed them in her luggage on a nudge. She wondered, “Bells. What do I need bells for?” But she had the inner nudge, so she kept them in her luggage. So when she talked with her husband, she realized she had actually been told by the Inner Master to pack those bells because she’d need them. And so she did. Such blessings happen a lot, but most of the time they pass unnoticed. With a blessing like this, you may say, “Oh, I just had a nudge to throw bells in my baggage when I was coming up here.” You forget that maybe there was a little more to it than that.
