In basketball, many of us go through "Growth Stunts" in our careers that can either derail us and we fall off the map, cause us to refocus and come back stronger or send us down a path where we discover our true calling in life. Stunted Growth Description: As a junior at Oakland University, Felder averaged an astounding 24.4 points and NCAA D-1 leading 9.3 assists per game, showcasing a fearless scoring ability and court vision that trumped his size or lack thereof. He left Oakland as the Horizon League Player of the Year and a Third-Team All-American in just 3 years, entering the NBA with hopes of defying the odds. Drafted 54th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2016 and immediately traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Felder had a chance to prove he belonged among the world's best. His story had the makings of a Hollywood script: the undersized underdog rising to stardom in a league dominated by towering athletes. Yet, instead of a triumphant climb, Felder’s NBA journey sputtered and stalled. By the end of his rookie season, he was shuttled between the Cavs and their G-League affiliate, the Canton Charge. Brief stints with the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, and Toronto Raptors followed, but none lasted long enough for Felder to establish himself. After years of irrelevance, this move was supposed to restore their championship glory and put them back on the NBA map. At first glance, it worked. In 2020, LeBron delivered on his promise, leading the Lakers to their 17th NBA Championship, although be it in the 2020 Orlando NBA bubble, a chip that has been challenged for it’s validity seeing all the circumstances surrounding it that affect competition. However, beneath the surface, cracks began to form. The price of winning a title was mortgaging their future, and now the franchise finds itself in a precarious position—aging superstars, poor roster decisions, and a lack of sustainable growth. Signing LeBron James in 2018 marked a critical turning point. Instead of building patiently, the Lakers pushed all their chips in for immediate success—a strategy that led to one glorious title but left them with questions about the future. LeBron is now 39 years old, still productive but far from his prime, and Anthony Davis whom they signed a year later to pair with Lebron, once seen as his heir, has struggled to stay healthy for consecutive seasons. Meanwhile, the young core they traded away has blossomed elsewhere, and the franchise lacks the draft picks or young stars needed to build for tomorrow. What we do is talk about basketball players from the past and present that could've, should've or would've had better careers had A,B or C not happen to them. In basketball, many of us go through "Growth Stunts" in our careers that can either derail us and we fall off the map, cause us to refocus and come back stronger or send us down a path where we discover our true calling in life. Either way, I'm here to teach younger players what NOT to do in order to avoid said "Growth Stunts" and have successful basketball careers through documenting what went wrong in these popular players careers through my eyes.
