Here are some of the SU2C-funded breakthroughs: Clinical trials for children and young adults with blood cancer led to the first CAR T-cell therapy, which is a type of immunotherapy, approved by the U.S. FDA. Immunotherapy combinations utilized in clinical trials for melanoma and prostate cancers led to the first-ever use of a specific immunotherapy drug in a type of advanced lung cancer. A clinical trial for difficult-to-treat rectal cancer utilized an immunotherapy drug, resulting in cancer disappearing for every trial participant without the need for surgery.
