Nijkamphoeve. Both had a gorgeous colt foal. </video> <video> Red Bag Delivery - Shetland Pony Description: Little Mix v. Lovinkbos, decided to foal in the early evening, with no prior signs. Luckily I was there by chance, and was able to assist her, with what suddenly turned out to be a red bag delivery. I am a veterinarian, but all horse breeders should be prepared to act quickly, when faced with this type of delivery. Since the placenta has detached, you only have a few minutes to get the foal out safely. Break the placenta (red bag), quickly check the positioning of the foal, and help pull the foal during contractions, to get it out as quickly as possible. Thankfully this delivery had a happy ending, with a healthy foal. A beautiful little filly foal: Shady Acres Khaleesi For everyone worried about the mare, there is really no need. This is a completely normal birthing process, and Katie is doing brilliantly. I am a veterinarian, and I know when and how to interveen, should there be need to. I try to always be there, to be able to help, but if the birth is progressing normally, I try to disturb the mare as little as possible. You can risk doing more harm than good, if you try to pull the foal out, instead of letting the normal birthing process progess.
