Sheriff Deputies were out to enforce the court order -evicting the former Fire Captain from the home where he had lived for over 4 decades. The case got worse because the fire captain couldn't afford an attorney. Sheriff deputies were not fond of being recorded and got a little nasty when asked for a business card. In California these appointment vary by county. In Contra Costa they are limited to one year and $40,000 cap for attorneys representing poor kids. In Santa Clara there is no limit, attorneys might represent these kids for 10- 15 years, bilking parents and taxpayers as they do. These are gateway appointments to corruption in family court. Taxpayers pay a million a year for these attorneys to represent children in just Santa Clara County , the same cost for contracting court reporters to make trasncripts and document court proceedings for poor families. Description: Last month the supervising judge in Santa Clara issued an order that finally allows audio recordings of public court proceedings in felony, family law , probate and civil cases. While this is long overdue and a far cry from cameras in courts, it is a blink from the state's judicary where the lack of court reporters available to make transcripts of public court proceedings has violated the due process rights of thosuands, if not milions of litigants, witnesses, and crime survivors. Our courts are far from transparent or accoutable, but this is a half step in a better direction.
