Description: Summer is here which means it's time to put the EK9 away for the season! Haha, yes that sounds strange considering most enthusiasts put their cars away for the winter but if you know Japan, you understand how harsh their summer season can be. It's just way too humid and hot to be outside which means I'm taking my ass back home to a slightly-less-hot Southern California. I've been here way too long so it's time for me to go back to catch-up on regular life... With me being gone, there's no reason really to have my EK9 CTR outside so it's going to stay in a nice comfy warehouse in Osaka. Before we do that though, Yasu and I decided to load the car up on a tow rig so we could safely transport it 7 hours to the Kanto-side of Japan. If you've followed me for the last few years, hopefully long before that, you know that I usually end my spring journey in Japan by attending the Chan-Oka Honda Meet. It's a smaller event, but the quality definitely exceeds the quantity of Hondas inside this up and coing event. This small lot in Saitama holds some of the best Honda builds in Japan! There's a particular style that these enthusiasts follow and it's very much the more 'USDM', West Coast style of building Hondas from the early 2000s. These guys get all their inspiration from magazines like Super Street and Honda Tuning from back in the day. They execute the style faithfully and I can honestly say that they do their research. The Hondas here are legit. Yasu and I joked around about how my EK9 wouldn't fit in at this event because it's almost too "JDM" in the way we put it together. It's very much a car styled faithfully to what I grew up understanding as a Japanese Honda build but with some of my own personal touches. Does that mean my car is USDM-styled or JDM? The lines definitely get a little blurred there... Oh yeah, have you ever seen a Lancia 037 Stradale before just sitting on the street while its raining? Me neither. Until now of course... Enjoy!! Description: It's been a crazy last few days! After finally revealing to you guys that I had an EK9 Civic Type R here in Japan the entire time, I went and explained the reasons why it no longer existed. It was a terrible accident and thankfully everyone came out unscathed. Our good friend Shogo offered us a bare Civic Type R chassis and the gears were then set into motion to make it an entire build that would debuted at the 2024 Wekfest Japan event. Description: Becoming an S2000-owner definitely was not on my list of 2024 projections when I started the year but things must happen for a reason because here I am with an AP1 that I acquired for a mere $50. Life is random and interesting that way but you know what? I've fully embraced my role now as a caretaker to this former track car. It has some wear and tear but for the most part, it's still in very great condition and with the S2000 came a ton of parts. The suspension work is quite thorough and the engine is healthy. Nothing much had been done to the exterior other which is perfect for me because I had every intention of changing it up. Mainly because I just can't leave anything alone but I also wanted to make this AP1 feel more like 'mine'. About a week after taking ownership of the car, I already began looking for stuff to do to it. It just started to snowball from there. I already had a pretty good idea of how I envisioned it to look in my brain, I just had to have the patience to wait for stuff to show up. As it turns out, I actually have come to really like having this S2000. Description: It's been a pretty big year for us when it comes to car shows but it was time to close out the car show season in Los Angeles for the annual Wekfest event. Since this is one of our biggest shows and one happening in our hometown, we wanted to do something major by having a big display for Battlecraft, Exceed, and The Chronicles. Our brand new Voltex GR86 Street Version II was set to make its first public appearance at this show so we created a full floor display for it so the car could sit center stage. In our heads, we knew this would look good but still ended-up shocked when we finally saw the wheels on the car for the first time. Description: At last, it was time for us to hit one of the most important stops of our trip, Attack Tsukuba. This is by far one of our favorite events every year and you could even say that it was the top of Der's list. There's just nothing else like it. The unique vibe of the legendary Tsukuba Circuit mixed with some of the craziest Japanese time attack cars, what more could an enthusiast ask for? It seems like everyone is getting faster this year, with so records being reset at many of the practice events leading up to Attack. This is the ultimate proving ground for Japanese time attack and competitors basically prep all year just for it! As usual, we spend two days at Tsukuba because it legitimately takes both days to see all of the competition cars there. Some of them are so detailed we could spend hours studying them. Description: Over the past year or so, I've been joking around with Sara calling her my 'manager' because she's been trying to convince me to go back to Indonesia with her. I went 7 years ago and though it was a fruitful life experience, I can honestly say that I didn't have the greatest of times. I don't think I ever made it a secret either. Whenever people asked me if I would go back, I often said I wouldn't. Not so much because I was treated poorly or anything, I think the people that invited me last time tried the best they could to give me the most positive of an experience. Circumstances just made it difficult for me to fully enjoy it. When Sara Choi decided that she'd start competing in a drift series down in Indonesia, I was all for it. I'm always gonna root for one of my closest friends. She planned to spend a bulk of her time down there to practice and train to be a better driver but there were definitely times when I think she felt homesick and wanted her friends there. She brought it up a couple times and at first, I wasn't really trying to go. Just because mainly I'm pretty busy as it is with a loaded travel schedule and I had this preconceived notion that I wouldn't have much of a different experience if I went back. But some time went by and it seemed like Sara was really enjoying herself down there and wanted me to see it for myself so I told her if she wanted to plan it out for me, I'd bring some of our other friends down there too and we'd make a trip of it... She agreed and took on the task of essentially becoming my manager for all Indonesia-related activities. Since I was in Japan already, it would be easier for me to fly down to Jakarta. Sara was already going to be in Tokyo as well so it all just made sense. Yasu was open to a new adventure and my good friend Kenneth Li from Wekfest decided he wanted to go see the country as well. We all just went into it blindly trusting Sara knew what she was doing and boy were we pleasantly surprised! I don't recall a time where I've ever been more taken care of in another country and everyone there from Garage One were so incredible. Did I mention also that we had the legendary Manabu "Max" Orido and Maaya Orido with us on this trip too? What a wildly fun and random trip this turned out to be!!...
